Jessie's design breakdown

Jessie was designed almost 2 years ago. Since then, her general... gist has remained the same, but her design has gone through a lot of refinement. I failed at drawing her at the weight i wanted to for a long time, but I think this ref is much closer to what I want. I added her old ref for comparison at the end of this post.
When I first drew her, I had literally just gotten the idea, so something like "someone with perfect God Vision wouldn't need to wear glasses" hadn't yet entered into the equation in my head. In the redraw, she doesn't wear glasses, because she wouldn't canonically do that in that point in the story, but she wouldn't look quite so relaxed and smug yet in the part of the story where she does wear glasses.

Little "rules" like this... I build them up over time with practice and carry them around in my head. I believe the reason I had so much to write about Jessie's design is because she exists within a universe that's always a little inconsistent. Shapes and colors change constantly, and this is simply an accepted fact of reality to the characters -- a feature considered necessary for them to exist at all, even.
Consequently, Jessie's design plays a little differently from characters I'd put in a more realistic universe; you can see a closer resemblance in the way her design works to characters like Maxine, Duncan, and Sivan, who live in a "cartoon universe" also separate from the more traditional Drop-Out/Fresh Meat universe (this universe is ALSO separate from Idletry's universe).

Anyway, that's it! I think most of this is written in the images themselves. I hope this is at least a little interesting. Going into it, honestly, I didn't expect to have THAT much to write. I've been wanting to make a new ref of her for a while, and now that I've gotten about a hundred pages of drawing Jessie under my belt, her design in my mind is a little more solidified to me. Perhaps God Jessie is still going to undergo further refinement when I get there.
