The gods say its touch banishes the gift. They will not say more, these beings love their secrets. Rumor amongst your people is that an agonizing death awaits those it catches. You were young and foolish to accept this curse. A life on the run. They didn’t say how alluring the snail would be. They didn’t mention how “the snail” didn’t look like a snail at all.
