Progress Report

Oh, here comes Xevvy with another one of his mock ups...

Nope. See that screenshot? That's an in-engine screenshot. Yep, seriously! It's in!

Now there's still some work before it's ready to go, most notably, we need to go through the story and set up expressions for whichever character you're playing as, as well as add expressions on the UI during special scenes and what not, but in general, the new UI is implemented and in fine form!

Priority right now is to finish the few remaining UI-related tasks before swapping back to writing new content for Day 18. Not that I expect my burnout related woes will have passed in such a short time, but UI update or no, I'll be beside myself if I don't at least release some new content for tai's route!

Either once I produce something worthwhile or fail spectacularly trying, I'll be getting to work implementing the same style of UI right throughout SIleo.  This will be a considerably easier task: the in-game UI is where all the complicated shit happens. Reworking the rest of Sileo to take advantage of this new visual style will be smooth sailing! And that's not all I'm hoping to do. Among other things, I feel as though it's time for a new main menu and theme. After all, we've been using the current one for more than a year, and if the overall visual experience is changing, why not go all out? I've also got a bucket list of other features I'd like to implement, so let's see what time allows.

Oh, and this would be a good time to mention that as of the next update (which we are tentatively planning to release as 0.40), the old renderer currently accessible through the advanced settings menu will no longer be available for use. The reason being that the new UI makes extensive use of some hardware skinning features that are only supported on the Model-Based Renderer. That means if you're unable to run Sileo using the new renderer, it might be time to upgrade your device!

The good news of course is that the new UI will be more user friendly on mobile platforms, particularly on phones with larger screens and tablets. The buttons might stil be a little packed in on some smaller devices, but rather than juggle multiple UI standards, we chose to seek a compromise between desktop and mobile with an interface which will work well across the widest range of devices possible.

Anyway, heaps more cool shit planned, stay tuned to see what's coming next!

Comments

All working as of right now. Could still change later in the month, Ren'Py is a delicate flower and it doesn't take much to break save compatibility.

Any concern about save files?
