Update on Those Patreon Fees

I'm sure most of you have probably heard by now, but in case you haven't: Patreon announced that they won't be going forward with their proposed fee changes, thanks to the pretty fierce backlash they received in response. So for my part, thanks for telling these guys what's what and letting them know you weren't going to stand for them making such a huge, unilateral decision on the part of all the creators on this platform.

As for where I stand? I'm going to stick around here for the time being, but that isn't going to keep me from exploring other avenues, like Gumroad's subscription platform, or d.rip when it finally launches to the public. The fact of the matter is, as a freelancer, complacency is the enemy. I don't have all of my eggs in this particular basket just yet, but I also don't care to put them there in the first place.

Once I'm caught up on a bit more stuff, I'm going to investigate both Gumroad and Etsy as possibilities for distributing things like past reward packs for people who don't want to sub on Patreon. Gumroad is currently in the process of disentangling itself from PayPal and Stripe and leaving that in the hands of creators, meaning they won't be forced to take down NSFW works because PP demands it, and Etsy already allows them as long as the product images are SFW. So, there are possibilities all over the place. And as big of a pain in the ass as this whole situation has been, I'm at least a little thankful for it because it brought a lot of other options to light.

Thank you again to everyone who stuck with me through this, and thank you as well to those of you who contributed before, but had to withdraw because of the impending change. It means the world to me to have had your support, and I'm sure the exodus of patrons played no small part in getting Patreon to change their minds.
