Vin prefers solitude over a crowd, of that there's no doubt. But despite this, her greatest fear of all is the possibility of losing her connection to the people she cares about, and to the world on which she lives.

Children of Mido who die off-world, away from their homes, are doomed to wander as lost spirits, forever isolated from their friends and family instead of returning to the flow of the planet. And with Mido only having recently come into space travel Vin has assumed a sort of creeping fear that she might one day end up out there, away from home and everything that's familiar. She fears the possibility that she might die out there, without a way to ever come back.
