Added 2019-05-02 13:29:26 +0000 UTCWhile this isn’t really as expressive as the sketches, I had a need to draw Snart in the “cat loaf” pose. I also rediscovered how much I both love and despise rendering subsurface lighting.
Anyway, a little more about Snart:
Species: Gewwie - It’s a work in progress, bear with me.
Sex: Nobody knows. Nena always called it a “he” and Vin just stuck with that.
Age: It is a mystery.
“Gewwies” are a species of intelligent slimes that were hunted near to extinction thanks to the many utilitarian uses people had for their gelatinous bodies. Before this could happen, they adapted the ability to take on more ‘pleasant’ shapes over time, once they discovered that they could ingratiate themselves to the local population by mimicking some of the species people regularly kept as pets.
Despite their appearance, they really aren’t all that sticky; they have about the same consistency as gummy candy. If you startle one, though, it’ll secrete a viscous ooze that, while it won’t stick to the gewwie, it will stick to just about everything else, making both capture and cleanup a bit of a pain.
Despite this flaw, they’re marketed as high-end pets on planets like Sigma Rhada 6, citing their decidedly dubious rarity as the reason for their expense. Nobody really questions it since nobody knows where they actually come from except for the people doing the selling, and the people on the planet they originated from.
