That's why there chemistry was so good, and why they were allowed to kiss, cuddle & get really close during Covid protocols. Also, Courtney was right about the Alpha thing. Before Negan killed Alpha, he spoke about Lucille, and how she was never more beautiful once she lost her hair. I think that part of Alpha reminded him of his wife.
