2021-06-01 02:44:50 +0000 UTCA lot of deception & shady shit went on behind the scenes between the showrunner Scott Gimple & Chandler, Chandler's Father made a post on FB about it shortly after it happened to explain a lot of it that was quickly removed but it dealt with them lying to Chandler about being secured a job for at least the next couple years. So much so that he bought a house down in Atlanta to be able to film, go to school & have his family close. Then, just before he turned 18 Gimple decided to have him killed off to conveniently not have to start paying him as an adult actor, whether on behalf of AMC or Gimple, it was shitty treatment all around & they waited until THE DAY he got the Episode 6 script to tell him about it & he was devastated. Fans knew something was up when he randomly tweeted something really somber & cryptic & then it went downhill from there. Also, on a more personal note, I'm 24 & have watched the show since its live premiere 10/31/10 & I GREW UP with Chandler & Carl so it affects me SO much more than most people, even Carl fans, because he was, is, and will always be the most relatable character to me & many others. He was the face & future of the show & this is an EXTREMELY far left turn from the comics (without giving any spoilers). The fans were beyond outraged by this & I still am, 3-4 years later. Horrible decision aside, his acting this episode & next are phenomenal & I was absolutely livid with the choice to kill him off. It was the WORST narrative decision in the entire series 10 seasons run so far & I stand firm in believing it always will be. The 3-month wait between this episode & the next didn't help either. But truly, a part of my love for this show that had grown the last 8 years died when these 2 episodes aired. I am beyond thrilled that the showrunner for this season (Scott Gimple) is not directly involved with the show anymore & instead they have someone that's worked on some of the BEST character development episodes of the entire series taking his place for Seasons 9 & beyond.
