Eren as a boy not only saved Mikasa's life but also inspired her to fight... In a cruel world you can only win when you are willing to fight. Also it's an important detail that the villain was looking at Mikasa when she delivered the killing blow, he was not struck unaware. (This was a couple of episodes back).
