LIGHT PLACEMENT - EXERCISE NO.3 & TUTORIAL - PART 1
Added 2020-09-17 07:40:28 +0000 UTCHey everyone. That cool fun exercise and a video tutorial you all have been expecting is finally here. Have you prepared some bits for painting, shields perhaps!? We will make more videos with explanations and ideas in future. And this first exercise is on shields. Chaos, Vampire, Dwarven... all of those are cool and fun for painting. You can choose any of the shields you like. Even if I haven't painted all of the possible shield designs out there, trough this tutorial you will get main idea on light placements trough play of lights and shadows, contrast, color mixing, ambience etc... There are six shields painted but to keep exercise fun and not too long, I split it in two parts. You will not have to wait long for a second part, we will upload it this month as well, in next few days. And you can use the chance while waiting for second part to start practicing ideas shown on first three shields. Let us know how did you like this video. How do you like this exercise!? PS. The shields used are: the one with the skull and the "bat wing one" (skeleton warriors), the big one - chaos warriors and the blue/red one chaos marauders, the one with the face is dwarven (longbeards)

Thank you for this video. These exercises are a game changer for me. As a new Patron, I've been trying to watch the backlog of videos you have released since new year to learn and understand your approach, at least in my head. This video is the first time I felt confident enough to try it with paint on plastic, and its mostly because you've broken it down into bite sizes (just a shield, not a whole mini) and you are so good about explaining yourself and the techniques in a clear way. Thank you, Aleksandra! I've admired the style of painting you and Marko do and never thought I could achieve such results. But I'm starting to think maybe, with practice and this wonderful teaching, just maybe I can someday. Feeling empowered by you! Thank you!

We are giving our best to upgrade our lessons every time. Many things are happening and we waited long time not being sure of making Patreon is right decision or not. We finally did it and we are glad we did, all the people supporting us are much appreciated and we are doing everything to make it better for you all, but it all takes some time to evolve. We are working on a new studio, new lessons, like this month of live video's (hope this will work well, lesson wise) and give us more interactions with you all. And we just acquired 3D printer, we will learn more about it and hopefully be able to print things for exercises and having students print theirs, but of course, even this will not work for all. So I hope it is understandable that there are different types of learner's/student's. All appreciate different methods, and we are trying to reach all with our ways of teaching. Thanks again and hope you will enjoy this exercise even if the shields don't match, we hope you will give it a try. We tend to make our lessons work outside just replication, it should be useful in wider range so you can fully understand light placement on similar shape's. 🙏🥰

Because there are a lot of tutorials on youtube but having something like a course with exercises and well structured material would be much more beneficial for many people I believe. It would be even better if students can make those exercises on exactly same objects and try to replicate your results!

Those are bits from games workshop, we wrote which ones in description (I will write it bellow as well) but we don't expect people to have all of these in a bit case. The idea of the exercise is to paint similar object's, it doesn't have to be exact shields. You can take a look at our discord channel to see how other students used this exercises on similar and different shields. Might be helpful. About the paper, it is baking paper (this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/ALUFIX-Baking-Paper-Wide-White/dp/B07N14THP7) we are waiting arrival of new palette so when its here we will see to talk more about palettes/sponge/&paper that we use and we will also test the new one and see if it is suitable or something we would find easier for use. :)

2020-09-30 08:55:40 +0000 UTCLove these videos and had no issue with backgroud noice - couldnt hear a thing. Regarding the paint consistency, which type of paper are you using on your wetpalet? I have noticed how the baking paper I use changes over time and does not look like yours so I have the idea that the surface treatment is different. Could be interesting in comparing the product specifications of whatever paper you are using with the one I am.

But as I did this as a practice and focused on defining shields as much in quick step, I believe it is good as it is. Maybe in some future tutorials we will cover that as well. Actually, next month we will have a tutorial from start to finish on a shield, it will be more complex and even more fun. :D
