Across The River: New Projects on GreslinGames

Setting out to make anything is always like trying to cross a wild river on foot. You lightly step from one tenuous idea to the next, one briefly stable moment after another, trying really hard to quickly get to the far shore before an inevitable misstep chucks you hard into the water. It's not a job for people who can't handle getting wet.

I'm very grateful to not be the only one on GreslinGames trying to get across that river. We have a great crew of folks who are all busy doing fun and interesting things, and I just wanted to take a few minutes this morning to acknowledge them and their projects.

(If I missed you here, please forgive me, it wasn't an intentional slight.)

Lighthouse F4SE Papyrus Extender by GELUXRUM. (Fallout 4).

I think of all the projects currently underway at GG right now, I'm most excited about this one. Our own GELUXRUM set out a few weeks ago to begin building a new F4SE Papyrus extender library for his own mod dev use, and he put out an open call for function suggestions. Pretty soon we were all reporting our own particular Papyrus roadblocks, and he's been coding like a mad demon to break them.

At last count, he's implemented over 100 new and useful Papyrus functions and he's still going. I'm very much looking forward to taking advantage of his work very soon.

You can learn more about Lighthouse in the #the-lighthouse channel.

The Porridge Mod by The Porridge Lady, aka Evelin. (Fallout 4)

Porridge - I still think of her as Evelin - is a recent addition to GreslinGames who almost immediately threw herself into the modding pool head first. Her enthusiasm has been kind of infectious, and she very quickly made a name for herself in our community with The Porridge Mod.

Starting with virtually no game modding experience, she began with the simple addition of porridge as a constructable food item in Fallout 4. Then the Porridge Collective began to get a little out of hand, leading to porridge grenades and a Brahmin porridge workbench and lots of other porridges and porridge accessories, complete with a hilarious series of videos of her testing what appears to be a porridge MIRV. So now she's stuck with porridge as her server brand, and as I understand it, porridge ammo of some kind is now on its way.

Abernathy Farm Tower Removal by awesomeangotti. (Fallout 4)

Awesomeangotti is another poor unfortunate soul that we've dragged into the clutches of game modding madness, and they've been a pretty good sport about it. Their very first Fallout 4 game mod project does something very simple: it removes the eyesore Abernathy Farm power pylon from the game.

That may not seem like much, but in my book this mod is exactly what it is, and that alone makes it a success. Also, one idea leads to another, and now the author is busy bulldozing pylons all over the place and using that as an opportunity to learn about LODs and precombines. Good work, AA.

Cryss' Interiors by Cryss. (Fallout 4)

I will confess that I've always been a sucker for a good interiors mod. There are so many boarded up doors in the Fallout series, so much unused real estate, so much underdeveloped story potential. So I feel that authors who are willing to pry up a few of those boards in the name of exploration are the true unsung heroes.

Cryss is a longtime GG member, friend, and one of our moderators. He's been working on a new interiors mod, featuring new FROST-friendly spaces and some beautiful lighting work. Go check it out for yourself.

Diacute's Weapon Mods (Various). (Fallout 4)

There isn't just one to showcase here. Diacute is our resident mad kitbasher, gun hacker, and compatibility patcher, and honestly I feel like if I overly focus on one thing he's done I'll be doing him an injustice. Dude's just everywhere these days.

Just check one of his recent projects: Chinese Compact Pistol, found at https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/70151.

Diacute has his own GG channel now - #diacute's-magicant - so when you get a chance, go take a look at what's been happening lately in his workshop.

S7 Skill System by alegendv1. (Fallout 4)

Alegendv1 is another modder who got his start on GreslinGames, and he's been steadily attacking some of the most recalcitrant parts of Fallout 4. This guy is the patron saint of dogged persistence, constitutionally incapable of letting a problem go until he's thoroughly run it into the ground. I've gotten to the point now where when someone asks me a question, I'll often just point to either him or GELUXRUM and say, "Whatever they say, they know what they're doing."

One of his cornerstone projects right now is S7 Skill System, a Skyrim-style skill XP overhaul that improves your skills as you practice them.

You can find S7 Skill System here: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/62743

And finally, one of the things I enjoy about this little creative community that we've collectively put together is that it is by no means limited to gaming. We have artists, writers, musicians, you name it. When we're not talking about game coding, we're sharing bread recipes, gardening tips, good books, favorite movies and bands, and all the little creative side hustles that keep us sane and happy.

A great example of that are the works of Eusong. They started out on GG posting their artwork in the #making-things channel (and they still regularly do) but recently they've expanded to making cool fantasy things out of soap.

Check out their storefront, at https://the-dragon-spa-llc.myshopify.com, and follow along with their progress in the #settler-chat channel.

Okay. I'd say that covers it, but it doesn't nearly cover it. Those are just a few highlights of what's been happening lately on GG, so if you'd like to learn more - or even better, if you'd like to come and join the party - pop on by the GreslinGames Discord and say hello.

Come for the game, stay for the porridge and soap. It's kind of what we do.

All my best,

- G.
