Preview of PACE 1.04: Custom Companion Support!

Ever since I released the first version of PANPC, back in early 2018, one of the most commonly requested features I've received has been enhanced AI support for custom companions. And my answer has always been some version of "someday, maybe, but I wouldn't hold your breath for it". It was tricky, to say the very least.

Well, if you have been holding your breath, you can enjoy fresh air again.

As of the upcoming version 1.04 of PACE (Pack Attack Companion Edition), there will be dynamic support for any custom companion that utilizes the vanilla follower system. This includes Ellen, Darlene, Ivy, Buttons, and pretty much everyone else. In addition - thanks to the generous collaborative assistance of llamaRCA - v1.04 will also include support for her popular mod Heather Casdin.

I'm very excited to be able to ship this. It's been a long time coming, and seeing Heather come to life with PACE AI for the first time was a wonderful experience. I'm very much looking forward to sharing it with all of you.

Support will include PACE movement hotkeys, and v1.04 will include a number of bug fixes (including the West Tek equip/unequip issue). And dynamic support means that no patching - other than to flag them for PACE support - should be necessary to make your custom companions work. Just plug it in, flip the flag, and go.

We are now probably about a week away from public release. Everything mostly works, but there are still a few hiccups involving multiple companion support that need to be ironed out. I also want to improve the melee tactics somewhat, and maybe do some work with Dogmeat, before letting it go.

Sometime this week I'll kick out a new video to show off what PACE can now do. I'll tell you, it's quite the thing to see Heather Casdin (or Ellen, for that matter) mowing down her enemies using PACE rifle tactics.

As always, you can find out more and get PACE 1.04 when it releases by visiting the GreslinGames Discord.

This is sooo awesome 😀

PACE 1.04 will support any custom companion that is coded to use the vanilla follower system (i.e., is coded the way the vanilla companions are coded). Temporary followers - the NPCs that act temporarily as an ally for some quest or other - will not be supported at this time. So re: TotC (or any other mod), it really depends on which type they are, and if they're true companions, if they're coded properly.

Are tales of the commonwealth companions supported?
