GreslinGames News: January 2022
Added 2022-01-18 20:37:56 +0000 UTCHey, all. Since releasing PANPC 2.0 in late December, GreslinGames has been growing at pretty decent clip and it's been fun to watch. There's stuff happening, and I thought you'd like to know about it.
New Documentation!
The GreslinGames Forums will likely be discontinued at some point this month. It was a temporary measure following my departure from Nexus in July, not something that I planned to keep long term. I'm now putting the more permanent pieces in place.
The first step in that is new official documentation for PANPC, PACE, and all my other popular mods. These manuals, available now on Google Docs, are still under development but they are already the most complete write ups available for my mods.
Links to the current manuals are on the Greslin Games Discord, and will be provided here in a follow up Patron-only post.
PANPC 2.0.1 : Enclave, Ambush, and Dangerous Randomness
The next version of PANPC is under development. Already there are some new optimizations, but my main push for the 2.x series - starting with 2.0.1 - is an expanded slate of compatibility options for mods such as FROST.
Already we have working:
- A new Random Combat NPC profile, which will randomly assign the NPC a Raider, Gunner, Minuteman, Cultist or Caravan Guard AI systems without breaking faction relationships
- MeleePreference and WillShootNeutrals properties enabled for custom NPC types
- Parameters for the stealth/detection system now exposed to compatibility patches
- A new Enclave NPC profile for modders who want Enclave-type custom behaviors for their quest NPCs
- A new feature allowing players to adjust or prevent NPC-to-NPC ambushing behaviors
In addition to the above, I also plan to revisit ambushing behavior in general, which hasn't really changed much since somewhere in the 1.6 series. It's overdue for an update.
When PANPC 2.0.1 is released, it will be available only to Discord members with the Citizen or Supporter roles. If you're reading this, you should have access. If not, please let me know so that I can fix that!
PACE Updates
PACE is getting some compatibility fixes, starting with better compatibility with Unlimited Companion Framework, whose system can interfere with PACE's hotkeys. Fixes for that are available on the GG Discord, in the PACE #releases-latest channel.
My plans for the next major PACE release include extending multiple companion support, starting with a feature allowing you to designate one of your companions as a lieutenant. This "second in command" status will enable that companion to give the others orders, hopefully creating more squad-like play in multi-comp situations.
I also hope/plan to update PACE's melee combat, as well as give Dogmeat another round of AI love.
Insult to Injury
Next on the "way overdue" update list is Insult to Injury, which hasn't had a significant update since 2018. I am overhauling the code base to incorporate the many things I've learned with PANPC and PACE, and to start working through a long list of features and fix requests that I've had on my desk for several years now.
I'm currently working on ITI on a sort of part time basis, in between bursts of effort in documentation and PANPC/PACE updates. But it's going to get there, hopefully sometime by the end of February at the latest.
Special thanks to GreslinGames member NotChar for creating an ITI compatibility patch for Immersive Animation Framework! (You can find it pinned in the #insult-to-injury channel of our Discord.)
Setting Up Shop At Collective Modding
There is now a dedicated GreslinGames channel at the Collective Modding Discord, and I'm pretty excited about it. They're a good bunch of folks and I'm proud to hang with them.
New Modder Spotlight: Ultimate Hacking, by Alagendv1
GreslinGames member Alagendv1 just released his first mod, Ultimate Hacking, and we couldn't be prouder. You can find it on Nexus. With this mod, you can hack any terminal in Fallout 4, at any player level - but at much higher actual minigame difficulty, getting a bit easier as you start picking up the Hacker perks.
Go check it out and maybe throw an endorsement his way.
Are You A Mod Author? Let Me Know!
If you are a mod author and currently a GreslinGames Discord member, please let me know so that I can give you the Mod Author role. This grants you access to a private chat for MA's only, where we talk about coding, platforms, promotion, community issues, user support challenges, and the like.
There is no requirement for the Mod Author role, except that you have completed a mod of some kind and have made it public somewhere. If you have your work out in front of users, you're in and I want to recognize and support your efforts.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATRONAGE!
I really don't feel like I say this enough, but thank you. Seriously.
I feel incredibly fortunate for the privilege of running herd on this merry bunch, and that so many people enjoy and get value from what this community provides. Your support makes a huge difference. It allows me to put more time and resources into all of this, encourages me to think further into the future for GreslinGames, and generally it just makes things better.
So thank you. I hope to continue to earn your trust and support in the months (and years?) ahead.
All my best,
Greslin
