Paint and Brush - first steps (fundamentals & muscle memory)

Today, I am sharing with you the post I made on today's day, back in 2019.

You will notice that through many tutorials, we mention that it is important to try and learn by experience. By this sentence, we refer to learning about the mediums.

Tell me how different paints react when diluted with water. How different paints react in different mixes. How far the mixing of the paints can go. How many colour variations can you create. How thin or how opaque one layer can get. Is there another way to learn it, other than seeing it with your own eyes and feeling it.





Only by experience can you get a better understanding.

The same goes for the brush. Any good brush will not be able to show its potential if not used properly. To use it properly, you need to build on a muscle memory. Building a muscle memory means exactly as it sounds, teaching your hand muscles certain movements that help you in your skill growth. The pressure or the bristle, the movements. How much can you load the brush and how to use it's bristle. How to use the tip or the brush. How to use different brushstrokes.




All of this can sound like an overwhelming theory. Only if it stays theory. To learn its values, you need to experience it in your own interpretation and build understanding from this experience. We are all different types of learners.
As teachers, we are constantly creating ways to reach more of your creative minds with our lessons. To teach art. To give a definition to something abstract.
But, to grasp this knowledge, you need to keep your mind and heart open and give a try. That is the best way to absorb it. 🥰
