Week in Review: March 6
Added 2020-03-06 06:37:03 +0000 UTCHi everyone! Here are a few updates as we start March.
1) World Religions Progress: I announced in January that I will be diving full-time into developing series on world religions. I’m starting with Shinto. Scriptwriting has begun, and I’m hoping to film the first episode on March 13! I’m trying my best to make this series more than a simple “chronology.” That is to say...covering the history of Japanese religion from antiquity to modernity. Rather, each episode will be more thematic. For example, episodes like: “What are kami?” “Buddhist and Shinto Syncretism Explained.”
2) American Civil Religion Series: I’ll be filming Episode 4 of American Civil Religion on March 13 as well. This episode focuses on the American Flag as a sacred symbol and attempts to answer the question: “is patriotism religious?”
3) Moving back to the US!: I’ve been living in Jerusalem since April 2019, but I am finally moving back to the states! My flight leaves March 11, but that may change based on what my airline decides to do with the impending coronavirus epidemic. Hopefully they won’t close the airport…
4) Dissertation Progress: Even though I am working on RFB full-time now, I am still devoting a few hours of spare time each day to finish my PhD. I have sent a draft to my advisor and am awaiting feedback. If all goes well, I should be Dr. Henry by August!
