2025-12-17 07:30:29 +0000 UTCW Kant hatred deontology SUCKS. I find it interesting that it's the perspective Akane pushes here, you'd expect her to be more of a utilitarian. I guess in many ways the universal application of Deontology is the most logical moral framework, compared to all the nonsensical (heh) utilitarian attempts at 'quantifying' or 'measuring' happiness. I find people who just fully commit to something like that, even to the extent of accepting any and every possible way they would die, really fascinating, Akane and Ii are definitely on opposite ends of the decisiveness spectrum. Also love all the Monogatari-isms in the discussion about everything being replaceable. I definitely think the importance of being chosen comes from that concept, but that Ii, in wanting to be the ONLY one she ever chooses, is rejecting the idea of being replaceable, which is completely contrary to his attempted lack of identity. I lowkey see so many parallels between him and Nadeko actually, with Ii's rejection of the self in favour of the world feeling similar to Nadeko's rejection of her humanity in favour of godhood (and yet both continue to have their humanity/personality show itself, they cannot fully commit to their ideals)
