Amazing tech.
Baseload is not always desirable. Plants like these coal units are not easily varied - those rotors are not made for variable temps - and so they crowd out other power. Just like renewables, you need a layer of peakers to fill in the gaps.
The word baseload is chosen by the industry to sound wonderful, but you could use the word "inflexible" as well. It helps to think clearly about the consequences.
