You make good points. And I agree I don’t like meeting the ROB if they have no relevance to the story. It’s a big part of why I like Planeswalker fic since anyone can spark so no ROB needed. With the past life thing it doesn’t need to be referenced at all or much in the story if it doesn’t play a role. Sort of like you did in Oracle. I just don’t like the whole lets reincarnate someone but wipe their memories. Like what’s the point. Just give meta knowledge to an OC character or have the character you want to insert into instead learn meta knowledge through dreams or oracle type powers or just one time info dump. A good example of what I mean is ordering a super supreme pizza or what ever the one with all the toppings is called and ask for the toppings to be removed till you are left with a cheese and olive pizza, when you could have just ordered a cheese pizza with extra olives. Just to state it before someone else does, yes there are cases where you do order all toppings then remove some as it’s cheaper but you get my point.

2023-03-04 02:39:22 +0000 UTCIronically enough, having the MC forget everything other than metaknowledge was my answer to a pet peeve of mine, where stories wasted time focusing on the protagonist's past only for it to carry no relevance whatsoever into the story. Or with a meeting with a ROB that won't ever intervene again. It's just a quick and easy way of saying 'this doesn't matter, move on'. Not all my stories use it, of course, but it's a decent go-to when I don't have a point to make otherwise. I don't really believe that memories are necessary for personality either, heavens know I remember very few of the events and experiences that actually shaped me as a person nowadays. In any case, I can't do much about it now. I hope the rest of the story makes it worth it for you.

Memories are what make a person do without them what’s the e point of having a reincarnated person instead of just making a person in world with divination powers that allow them to view canon and fanfic (alternate timelines). But I like some of your other works (and I will be without internet in a bit for 22 hours) so I’ll give it a shot. I never understand the need to wipe the memories of a reincarnated MC. Like it’s not hard for the MC to just accept that their old life is over and move on. Personally I would miss my old life (people I know) from time to time but I’ll move on as I have no control over it. And within a few days or months at the max I would accept the new life as my life worth out any issue. I would try to understand how it happens since that seems like a method to achieve a form of immortality. And if possible I would learn a way to visit my old world because who doesn’t want the ability to move between worlds. I just wouldn’t let it take over my life. You could have just not mentioned his old life at all beyond him having one. And the rest we learn based on his interactions with others. Anyway with my rant out of the way I’ll go back to reading feeling a bit better for venting.
