Ranma Lamia comic thing

"Okay, so let's get started. As most of you aleady know, we've been considering inviting Axeth Malder to join our little band; on the surface he seems like a good fit, good with a sword, stalwart and brave, etcetera. Under normal circumstances his reputation alone would probably have been enough for us to just invite him outright, but a lot of freelancers who we know are trustworthy told us he'd be a bad fit.

"While we couldn't get in contact with most of them since they were out on quest, we managed to corner a couple, and most of them had the same thing to say, basically that he was a dumbass and terrible to work with. Seemed a bit at odds with the villager reports, but we trust these folks for a reason and they were pretty uniform in their opinion, so we decided to do the usual schtick and evaluate him in the field. Contact went pretty smoothly; it helped that we actually had stuff in the region that needed taking care of, so it was easier for Darad and I return to claim to be 'simple adventurers.'

"Anyway, at first it seemed like it would be so much of a problem. He's a little slow, kind of a stiff, but he's good with a sword, good reflexes, strong, tough. Useful as a handyman, if it comes down to it. We get a good chance to observe him in action because of some bandit trouble, and while he's a little too direct his judgement seems sound. He's got a bad attitude, but nothing we can't work with, right?

"But then we get to Ancas, and while we're talking with the village chief about where to meet our contact, we have to explain to the guy what a Lamia is. Which, y'know, kinda weird, but hey maybe the guy is sheltered right? But for some reason after that he's fuming, even more than normal. Well, that was the first sign of trouble."

"The second is when he attacked the first Lamia we met."

"Just straight up, started screaming about monsters and charges in waving his sword; we're lucky she was as strong as she was, puts the guy down relatively gently and, pretty reasonably asks what's his god damn problem. As it turns out his problem isn't just that he's dumb, nope he's dumb as hell. Like, almost preposterously stupid.

"As you might imagine, that kind of complicated things a lot..."
