2021-07-12 20:39:30 +0000 UTCoh 100 percent this episode is amazing for showing a protagonist mess up like this. The cringe is just initial reaction , but it does highlight issues subaru has. I didn't think of the duel that way though , that makes sense. Because we do see a bit more about julius so that helps me understand why he would do that. Good points!

And to prevent Subaru getting killed by a random knight out of revenge he challenged him to a duel to publically humiliate him and beat him up so bad that even the knights started to feel bad about him and abandon the thought of revenge. And by doing that Julius actually tarnished his own knight-career to save the butt of a disrespectful dude. And ye many find this episode cringey which i can understand. But i personally like this kind of fresh wind which shows the imperfectness of the protag. Subaru is meant to be your average joe after all. But i guess he himself still thinks he is the hero of the story because of all the isekai-clichΓ©s. Because in any other anime if the heroine of the main guy gets insulted it usually ends of with the main guy beating the guy badmouthing her which i personally find boring lol
