Added 2022-12-26 00:08:45 +0000 UTCI'll be watching Highlander first (very soon), but right after that, I'll be watching YOUR choice of a Sci-Fi movie.
These are all ones that have been on my list for a while and/or have been suggested multiple times already. I'm looking forward to seeing them all, but I want you guys to choose which I'll be watching first!
Have fun voting!

Oh cool! Even though Akira didn't win this poll, since it tied for second, I'll be watching it soon! Also, that's good to know it's available in 4K. Thanks!

2023-01-04 00:15:53 +0000 UTCWhen Rosa S went to visit Japan, they welcomed her with open arms and tears running down as to say YOU ARE ALITA! She was taken aback and pleasantly surprised. The idea that white people shouldn’t play anime characters is nonsense! From my perspective, they’ve mostly been drawn as white people with huuuuge eyes 😅 Clearly they are Japanese in Akira or some type of Asian at least.

2022-12-28 00:08:11 +0000 UTCRosa Salazar is AMAZING in Undone on Amazon Prime. The whole show is endearing and captivating. The entire thing also acts like a laser focused lens into mental anguish. Completely incredible Alita was unbelievably good! I couldn't imagine it being adapted better, and the Hollywood movie covered more ground than the OVA, how is that even possible? To be honest, it might be a miracle it was as good as it was, considering the development hell it went through to get on screen Akira manga and anime film are two completely different things and it makes me love each even more I think Angel would dig Akira. It's shocking how similar the Dredd adaptation was to Akira. She really dug that movie. Akira is like Dredd on steroids with some of the social criticisms more front and center. I think it'd be her bag! Outside of that, just from a craft perspective, it's arguably the most advanced piece of hand animation ever achieved in a cinematic film (They hand animated lens shifts on the ground!!)

2022-12-27 00:48:04 +0000 UTCI didn’t mean to make it sound like Akira wasn’t important, it is! Used to be like required “summer reading” for advanced nerd culture back in the day- almost a cartoon rite of passage you NEED TO SEE to be an anime aficionado

2022-12-26 23:43:28 +0000 UTC9 times out of 10 the person recommending anime was a fan of the manga. The greatest live action movie based on old anime/ manga is Alita Battle Angel. I saw the old cartoon in the 90s, and LIKED IT but it wasn’t my favorite thing. There was a lot of other cyberpunk that was kind of “better.” But in 2019- we couldn’t have asked/ hoped for better than the R Rodriguez directed James Cameron produced masterpiece. Fans (like me) pray to God for a sequel! In the meantime just have to watch MY QUEEN Rosa Salazar in the Netflix Miniseries Brand New Cherry 🍒 Flavor. Don’t let the name fool ya- it’s a hardcore supernatural horror like Stranger Things (except no kids). I liked it, it’s awesome. As for Alita, there’s a lot of manga they can make more live action movies out of 😉

2022-12-26 23:40:31 +0000 UTCThat’s some of the fun of watching reactions, not everyone likes what you like. I think Akira is amazing but I’m biased because I love the manga.

2022-12-26 23:12:34 +0000 UTCAkira was like introductory anime for dummies in the 90s. What is this thing “Japanimation”? Watch Akira! Is it for Angel Groves, tho??? Maybe/ maybe not 😬

2022-12-26 21:32:32 +0000 UTCVoted for Akira since I don’t have They Live in 4K yet and The Abyss doesn’t get a 4K release until next year.
