Additional suggestions for sci-fi horror (or at least sci-fi) - Critters & Critters 2, Escape From New York, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, Cherry 2000, Trancers 1&2, Innerspace, The Last Starfighter, My Science Project and Night of the Comet. (Plus I'm gonna keep pitching The Collector 2009!)

Yes, these "popcorn flicks" really are just an easy, fun watch. I'm looking forward to Deep Rising! I really, really like Shawnee Smith. She killed it in this. I'll definitely check out Summer School (1987). ❀️

You do have to judge movies like this on a different scale. Fairly low budget, formulaic, one-dimensional stock characters, but it doesn't try to be more than an enjoyable thing to sit and watch with a bowl of popcorn. Not that I'm overly pushing for that movie, but this is the type of movie I was meaning with Deep Rising. You know; a popcorn flick. Even though she did have a reasonable career, Shawnee Smith should have been a much bigger star than she was. Another movie she's in that doesn't try to be more than it is was Summer School (1987). Fairly forgettable comedy that became a bit of an after the fact hit when it became a staple on TBS and other cable channels. Good for a light watch when you don't want to think too hard.

Time to find out if I like this film, probably the only 80’s horror I’ve never seen πŸ˜†
