A quick health update written for you Patrons:

It turns out there's a reason I've been so extremely fatigued at points during the last two years, besides reasons like anxiety....I was using "mind over matter" a bit too much, telling myself it was just my anxiety causing so many things, and I should have gotten my full blood work done sooner.

Long story short, I've apparently had a SEVERE Vitamin D deficiency... (at least the last 2 years) and it's been a big reason behind a lot of the way I've been feeling (including extreme, EXTREME fatigue at random points throughout the day...barely being able to hold my eyes open). Again, feeling much better now already (after being on a prescription strength Vitamin D for weeks) but lesson learned....go to the Doc for a FULL check-up when needed...and go get some SUNSHINE more often (like I used to)...literally my Doctor's orders. I joked about being a vampire the last few years/ not being in the sun/ being so pale compared to what I used to be, and well....turns out I was more right than I knew!

Boogie Nights (1997) Hey, Angel Darling, how you doing? My name is Brian Rod but my friends call me Big B. I'm the plumber/gardner/pizza delivery boy and I'm here to clean your pipes, work your backyard and drop off this extra large sausage. But I know what I really need to give you. I need to give you what you been wanting. What you've been waiting for and luckily I have it all right here in my pants.. and that's these notes. •Production of the film wasn't smooth as Burt Reynolds and Paul Thomas Anderson clashed multiple times on set, with reports stating that there was even a backyard scuffle. After the success of Boogie Nights, Anderson offered Burt Reynolds a role in his next film, Magnolia, but Reynolds decline saying that having one Anderson film under his belt was more than enough. Reynolds later stated that he hated working on the film before he saw the finished product as he felt that it was a disservice to his longtime fans and that it would have torpedoed his career. He fired his agent and refused to do promotion for the film, even after winning the Golden Globe and earning an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor, Reynolds still had nothing but regrets for that film, selling his Golden Globe in 2014. •The film divided opinions between actors, producers and people involved in the adult industry in the 1970s. Many felt that the film over glamorized the industry at a time when production was still considered taboo and illegal in certain parts of the country. Others felt that it showed a level of success that was unheard of at the time, while others appreciated the film and even participated in the film. •Bill's wife, played by porn legend Nina Hartley, gifted multiple titles from her film collection to cast and crew as thank you gifts. •Amber Waves was inspired by two adult actresses, Seka and Veronica Hart, the latter played the judge at the custodial hearing. The hearing was based off of Hart's real life custody battle. •Eddie/Dirk was based off of John Holmes, who is mentioned in the movie as a contemporary/ rival in the business. •Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Ethan Hawke, Leonardo Dicaprio and Joaquin Phoenix were all considered for the role of Dirk Diggler. Joaquin Phoenix turned down the role due to concerns about portraying a porn star but ended up working with Paul Thomas Anderson on a couple films later. DiCaprio was also interested but had to drop out because he had signed on to do Titanic but suggested Mark Wahlberg for the role. •Some of the actresses considered for Roller Girl girl included Drew Barrymore, Tatum O'Neal and Gwyneth Paltrow, who turned down the role. Heather Graham was also on the short list and secured the role after assuring producers and she had no problems getting naked on film. It was Graham's first ever nude role. •Paul Thomas Anderson simulated the dialogue in the fake porn movies by adapting actual dialogue from real porn movies. He said he did it so people could not say the porn dialogue "sounded fake." •In 1998, Cinemattractions asked Paul Thomas Anderson what he thought the film was about. "It's about finding a family, to tell you the truth," he said. "I know that sounds kinda preposterous, 'cause it's about porno! That's a really kinda weird thing, is that you want to say 'Well, it's about the pornography industry' and then you want to quickly say well, not really ... But I think ultimately, the thing that I really liked most and really focused on is, that it's about a lot of people searching for their dignity, and trying to find any kind of love and affection they can get, and they find it in really fucked up and twisted ways-but they get it, you know?" But Anderson simplified the plot for Empire magazine: "It's about a guy with a big dick." •After filming the devastating scene between Eddie Adams and his angry mother, Joanna Gleason was talking to Paul Thomas Anderson, and asked him if the material reflected the relationship between Anderson and his own mother. Anderson became very quiet, and did not answer the question. Gleason then put her hand on his shoulder and said "You don't have to forgive her." Years later, in an interview with Marc Maron, Anderson reported that he had recently gone to his mother's house, gotten down on his hands and knees, and apologized to his mother for his attitude toward her in the past, and for not being more understanding of her. •Paul Thomas Anderson spent a year hanging out with Ron Jeremy to research the film. Ron Jeremy was originally going to have a cameo in the film that got cut, which entailed being in a prison cell with the Colonel. Jeremy told the Independent that during the film's production he invited Anderson and the cast to "a lot of my sets, but Burt Reynolds never came. He said, 'I know porn: I don't need to see that.'" •Burt Reynolds said in a interview that he researched his role by visiting porn sets and talking with real porn actors. He said the experience made him want to wear rubber gloves and take a shower afterward, and all the porn actors asked him how to get a Screen Actors Guild card. •Dirk Diggler's habit of preparing for his scenes in the bathroom is based on John Holmes, who said he liked to rehearse in bathrooms because "It's usually the only room in the house that has a lock on the door." •Rumors of plans for a "Boogie Nights 2" are false. Paul Thomas Anderson has stated that he does not do sequels. •Forty seconds of film were cut to reduce the original NC-17 rating to an R. •Alfred Molina had never heard either "Jessie's Girl" by Rick Springfield or "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger, songs he sings along to in the film. He is from the United Kingdom, where neither song had been a hit. He spent three days repeatedly playing them until he knew them. Molina wore noise-canceling earpieces to appear oblivious to the sound of the firecrackers. The involuntary flinching of the other actors in the scene at the noise was genuine. •In the long continuous shot where Little Bill (William H. Macy) talks with Kurt Longjohn (Ricky Jay), Macy flubbed his line by saying "my fucking wife has an ass in her cock in the driveway." Since Macy's character was supposed to be distraught in the scene, it felt like an honest mistake, and it was kept in the movie. •Despite the movie being an artistic success with an enduring legacy, three of the main cast members had or still have a complicated relationship with it. Besides Reynolds issues with the film, Mark Wahlberg became a devot Catholic and father in later years, and once stated in an interview that he hoped that God would forgive him for his poor career choices, with Boogie Nights being on top of the list. He later claimed to have been joking, but maintained that although he doesn't necessarily regret being in the movie, he would not be able to explain doing such subject matter to his children any longer. Heather Graham didn't get any meaningful roles for over a year after Boogie Nights was released, and was seriously considering to accept a part in a softcore erotic movie. What saved her from a career in porn was an offer from Mike Myers to be in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999). Graham has since refused to answer any questions about Boogie Nights, or co-operate with a retrospective or cast reunion. Although Anderson frequently works with a group of dedicated actors, neither Reynolds, Wahlberg or Graham have worked with him again since, though Wahlberg and Graham have both praised Paul Thomas Anderson and his talent. •Choreographer Adam Shankman taught the cast some popular 1970s dance steps. And that wraps it up for this week, on a personal note, the scene at the end with the G getting replaced with a Q in Rodriguez hit home for me as that had happened on more than one occasion and then the top it all off, since my first name is Brian, I've had moments where they replaced the letter I with the letter Y. Until next time, Angel Darling! 🖤

I love this movie, it is one of my favorites. I saw it when it first came out 3 times in the theater, so I was 21 in 1997. I really appreciated the early "fun" scenes of Heather Graham of course back then because I was a kid compared to almost 49 now. But even back then and especially much more now I love the camera work especially at the pool party and the opening disco scene. I also love the acting. Burt did not love this movie, but in my opinion this was his last great role and movie.
