Well, I've NEVER had such a turn around, when it comes to liking a movie at the end...YESSSS!!! WOW. What a rollercoaster....and I'd watch it again!

Those that are bigger fans of this will be better able to explain this all to you, but with no other comments taking it on I'll give some idea. Look up what grindhouse theaters were; they played continuous cheap movies, mostly horror, action, and exploitation films. This was a tribute to those types of films. In the theatrical cut, each movie was much shorter with a lot more of those "missing reel" shots they showed in Planet Terror, where the reel had been damaged or lost. I think Death Proof was hurt more by the extension than Planet Terror, since the latter was able to fill in with more action and tension. Also, there were several more "coming attraction" reels for fake movies in the genre. Machete was just one a lot of people said was their favorite of those, so they made a full movie. They also did a full movie for "Hobo With a Shotgun", a trailer that wasn't in these full lengths. I think that's why the dialogue in Death Proof wasn't the usual snappy Tarantino style, he was writing a version of the old 70s exploitation flicks. Personally I liked Planet Terror a whole lot more than Death Proof, both in the edited and the full length versions.
