Devlog: regret and rollback

What a truly awful week this has been, and things will get worse before they get better. But they will get better. In the meantime, this is what I could get done.

I finished modeling all platforms and bridges in the treetop village. I also decided to spend a few hours adding flexible segments to the rope bridges, so movement looks softer.

Apparently an armored cow is nimble enough to completely ignore my whole platforming section by being able to leap straight to the final area, so I either redesign the whole thing or add guardrails. I think I'm adding guardrails, but allowing crazier players to attempt to break the level.

It is with great regret and sadness that I had to remove the physics from all rope bridges. Even if the calculations took me a week, they just didn't look right. But that's okay. It was fun and I learned. These are the new simplified calculations.

While bridges no longer shift under the player's weight, they do react to touching the ground after being cut. I have also prepared the mechanical bridge that the jackalopes will extend to open a new path for the player. I should probably put all trees further apart so that the player can't just ignore the bridges and jump across platforms.

I have added helpful stickers so players who choose the "game journalist" difficulty level know what things they're supposed to ram to progress. I have also added a pause menu with level selection buttons and a quit button. Not much, but minor tasks add up too.
