Software ownership and modding
Added 2025-04-13 04:30:45 +0000 UTCI don't have a devlog today because this week I've been focusing on my comic instead, I hope you've read the new pages. However, two things have come to my attention while browsing the web and I'd like to position myself as an amateur developer.
According to IGN, "Ubisoft insists that buying games doesn't give players unfettered ownership rights to it, only a limited license to access the game".
Just so we're clear, if you buy, pirate or otherwise get a copy of CowHammer once it's finished, it's yours forever to do whatever you want with it - except selling it as your own intellectual property. If for whatever reason you lose your Steam/GOG copy and you can show me proof of your purchase, I will send you a standalone copy of the game for your personal use.
I also just read an X thread by some game developer, proudly showing off how they absolutely butchered their own game to make it unmoddable, because forcing their ideology on their product was more important than making a good product.
If you buy, pirate or otherwise get a copy of CowHammer once it's finished, you may mod it in whatever way you want. Give every character a horse c///k, make every town flag the n///i one or the trans one, I don't give a damn. My personal ideologies have been dragged through the mud for decades, I have lost the ability to be offended. Except by a blatant use of ngons. That level of incompetence cannot be allowed to go unpunished. Potassium deficiency upon them.
So I might try to make the game as moddable as possible. Enjoy my stories in whatever way works best for you. Knock yourselves out.
