News about the progress

Hey, guys! So, it's been a year since the last release. Yep. That's a lot. The big question for those of you who are still waiting is when is the release. Well, it's not an easy question, and as you know I don't usually give any dates to avoid messing up with them. But this time I will say this, I will make the update before the end of summer (I wouldn't be surprised if it happens in the very last days of August). It's a promise to you, it's a promise to myself. Hopefully, the upcoming deadline will allow me to speed up my work. Because right now the pace clearly leaves a lot to be desired. I've written 3.5k lines of text, which is objectively way too little. I don't know why that is. On the one hand I really like what I've already written, but on the other hand, when at the end of the day you look at the result, you ask yourself "Really, that's it? Why so little?" Anyway, from the looks of it, I've written about 1/3 of the total text/dialogs, maybe a little more.

To summarize, right now I'm still working with the text. The work is progressing, but slowly. For the next month, I'll put a pause on the payments again. And lastly, I'm putting a deadline until the end of August. That's all.

Thank you for your support. Take care.

Joshua Entrekin

I tried, but I can't make it. so September.

MrJet

thank you for updating us, it being the last few days of august.... do you think youll be able to make that projection (honestly no pressure, I prefer Quality over popping out an update every other week or once a month) point being no rush from me i cant wait but you do what you have to for sure!

Art Vandelay

Still on pace for end august? No stress just a curiosity.

As for the issue of increasing work on updates in general, that's a big topic. At first I released updates once a month (though very small), then I began to release updates every two months, and so on. I think the increased time between releases shows that the quality of this kind of game has improved over the years, while the number of developers working on the project has not. Also, many people see that more and more devs are trying to release large chunks of content at once, and players mostly welcome that, so they're adjusting to this release model. In general, every developer wants their game to be loved. The most successful games release big and quality updates. Developers see this, developers adjust to it, but not all of them can do it well. Of course, there are some unscrupulous devs who take advantage of this, because of which our general reputation suffers in the eyes of the players. But that's the way the world works, and there will always be such people in all spheres of activity.

MrJet

Yes, this is my first game. I think the very first update of the next game will take a decent amount of time. After all, I'll have to do a lot of work from scratch. But the next updates should go much faster. However, I do not want to make any predictions. First, I need to deal with the current project.

MrJet

Wow, quick answer 😊. Awesome! Looking forward to when you are ready to share/have decided. Btw, I only joined your following about a year ago, approximately how long was it between your updates in the beginning of the game? I'm only curious as more or less all of the game creators experience the same thing, that the releases gets further and further apart and each episode gets bigger and bigger and more complex. So I'm curious to how it will be in the beginning again on a new game for an author/game creator like you, with a successful game in his back pocket already πŸ˜‰. I remember correctly right that this was your first game?

Pains

Yes, as soon as BARS is finished, I will definitely start working on a new game. I have certain ideas, the details of which I'm still thinking over. And when the time comes, I'll be happy to share it.

MrJet

@MrJet Do you have any idea what you will do after the game is done and you've taken some well deserved time off? Are you going to Continue making games? If so, do you have an idea (or ideas) of what the next game will be about? I really liked the story in your game. It's not the usual VN backstory or plot. Instead you choose to make it about an actual believable situation, (although rare ofc, we can't all be Rock Stars πŸ˜ͺ). The base part of the story that is, not including his father's antics etc hehe. I kind of have high hopes for your next game. And that you will do something similar, (but ofc different 🀣). Similar as in perhaps another story where the backstory deals with fulfilling your dream/goals but without the Rock Star part naturally hehe. It could be about J-POP! (joking πŸ™ƒ). I would have suggested a college story, but who wants to be compared to DrPinkCake at this time? πŸ˜‹

Pains

Yeah, fully agree. Additionally, you even might chance yourself a little bit over the long journey. You make more experiences, get happier or sadder with your life, generally get older. This might lead to a more critical view on older chapters of your work - but you have to keep them in the story. I envy you and don't envy you for finalizing you story. It will be a great accomplishment, but the way there is long and hard... .

Dennis

I think it gets a little harder to write a story when it's about 50%+ already written. Especially if you're releasing it in parts. You start to get the feeling that with one wrong decision you might ruin certain characters, the story arc of a group of characters, or even the whole story. I mean, they are already pretty amateurish, but you could make it even worse. Maybe it works differently for more experienced writers, but I've had that feeling more than once, which has caused me to have to be more critical (which isn't necessarily a good thing). Plus, the fact that the size of the final update will be large means I need to write more text than usual.

MrJet

I think it is harder to write if you know "That's it! This is the final stone that builds this castle! No more adjusting, no more room for explaining holes in the story..." It is the last 10% that are much harder to archive than the first 90%. But stay focussed and you will make it :) . Nice to know you are pausing the payments, by the way! So you are not playing any tricks, but are really "struggeling".

Dennis

Thanks for the update. I value that communication far more than you realize.
