“We understood as much about them as a deer in the woods understands about a human being.” In this part of the animation, the deer is watching a human do something that it cannot possibly comprehend. That same thing will be done to us, and we, like the deer, will not understand. You will, though, because you’ll have me to explain as the narrator.
It takes two programs to make a scene like this. I drew and animated the deer using Moho, vector based animation. I created the forest using Vue. First, I designed a tree to look like aspen. Then, I used various parameters to “paint” replicas of that tree design (along with grass patches), with variations, onto an area that has a dirt texture applied to it. In the old days, I would’ve had to copy/paste and change each individual tree. Now, I can get the program to randomize my tree, which makes it quick and easy to make vast forests like this. This forest has a total of 5,270 trees and plants.
