Comments

who gets desensitized to having empathy for someone jeez i wouldn't wanna be your friend mickey

Tymarie

Be ready because you will see all the back story from each one of the moons and they do humanize the villains, because they are not really bad, there is a reason like Rui

Isaac Dominguez

The 3 in middle are the only ones who aren’t mannikins with zero emotion

Jose

You guys are classic normies 😂 Normies: talk trash about why only shinobu has the antidote and why dont the others have the antidote DS: whole kakuzu squad literally use the antidote Normies: ......

Luka Monsaraz

My boi Rengoku on the next episode 👏🏼😍

Silver Wolf

Demon slayer does have a pattern and anyone that tries to deny it is silly but i think since the anime was so hyped up it built a lot of people's (yall's) expectations. But it built so much hype because the animation is great but also for a lot of people watching this as it came out i think it reminded us of some classic anime tropes that we love to see but a modern version of it. I am sad that it doesn't look like yall (besides nahid rana and suraj) are enjoying it that much but the show will be over soon and and you wont be bombarded with demon slayer comments anymore lol.

Crystalrose

Wit all due respect, half the people in this reaction r lowkey dumb i mean the whole point of showing a demons backstory is to tell the viewers dat Muzan is the real evil, everyone else was corrupted by him nd did ya all notice the fact dat they only show the backstories when Tanjiro kills em....

CRuEL_WOrlD

I don’t dislike Shounen following the formula and anime isn’t a one size fits all kinda deal anyways so maybe Micky’s just not rocking with it like others. Even reading the manga it still follows similar tropes but I still think it’s unique, still fast paced and action packed. Bruh if they keep on top with the animation it’ll win regardless cause the manga is lit.

Anonamai

I have seen some crazy hard core people just throwing insults and the like i hope the Normies ignore those and focus and the lot of people here giving genuine critiques of their takes/opinions in this episode discussion

WolfBrother13le

i guess it's fair to say the show rinse and repeats with killing demons and making you feel bad for them but i think you're missing the big picture, the only time this happens is when Tanjirou kills them because he's the only one with the unique perspective because of his sister being a demon and all. When anyone else kills a demon it's a quick death with no backstory.

saul™

Maybe the last episode Will change Mickey's perspective :)

I can’t stop laughing at him thinking Kocho is old enough to be her mother. Bruh shes like a few years older than tanjiro and them. 😂😂😂

thevoidbender

this shows pretty straight forward, the main goal is to get rid of Muzan. The reason why the plot isnt super thick is because they didnt really do word building. unlike other shounen that creates a world where we can imagine different opposition and they can come up with new stories that’ll help it get to like 400+ eps. concerning the formulation of the fights, i can agree partially, but i believe since this is season 1 its still the surface of the show. regarding the desensitised demon backstories, they do that a lot to emphasise the fact that demons are also victims of muzan. This shounen isnt built for lengthy plots like naruto or attack on titan, its: get rid of muzan. I enjoy it greatly though, its very fun to see tanjiro go through his adversities. also, this is just season 1, im sure more things will happen in the future😊😊😊

AUO

Having watched now, Micky and Chris have entirely valid opinions. As someone who likes this series and is looking forward to season 2, it wasn't until episode 20 that I found the show to be anything noteworthy. As they said, it's very formulaic and rinse and repeat. Just because some of you didn't mind watching "the same arc" 3 times, doesn't mean other people can't call it out for what it is. As long as they haven't missed any information during the episode (and thus have full context up until this point), I don't understand why their opinions affect you so much? They understand what happened. The story at episode 21 is the story at episode 21.

Zikkara

totally on chris and mickey side, demon slayer does a lot o things well, but it has a formula that gets very tired

Jocta96

I haven't watched this yet but I'm very much looking forward to Micky's opinion now, given all the REEing in these comments. Lmao

Zikkara

I love you too bro - Micky -

The Normies

You have to understand that the animation is expensive so you are not going to get the dragged out back stories and super in depth arcs. That being said I think now that the rest of the Hashiras have been introduced the show will get more interesting. I too was starting to feel like Mickey, but once I saw the Hashiras I became more intrigued at the direction it will go, and I wasn't wrong because the Hashiras are really interesting.

Scar

Really enjoyed the discussion at the end, I love seeing such varied opinions will say i always tend to agree with Chris on his points

AniCrunch

Well said!

Eric Taing

I love how they're jumping on Demon Slayer for having the same formula when Naruto, MHA, and most shounens do the same. I love Naruto but how many times is Naruto going to beat someone with Talk no Jutsu and/or the Rasengan. There is also literally a flashback in every single Naruto fight. I agree that the first 20 or so episodes of Demon Slayer have a clear pattern, but that's one of the trade offs of having a condensed series that cuts out filler, long fights, long flashbacks, etc. Demon Slayer definitely has it's flaws, I just kinda disagree that being formulaic is one of them when that's pretty much a staple of the genre and Demon Slayer does it better than most. Regardless, the "Demon of the Week" theme ends with this episode.

Ginzo

And he probably was with them for at most a few hours.

Matthew Elijah Brown

I don't care what anyone says, Rui's story and Tanjiro's impassioned speech make me tear up every time I see it. I understand the scope of Tanjiro's kindness and understanding of other people. I also do appreciate the fact that even though Tanjiro shows that empathy, he will exact the punishment the demons deserve because they have killed humans. And I love it every time I see reactions to Hashira! A big WHOA cause those character designs are so compelling and interesting. You immediately know what the characters are like before they even speak.

botanbutton

I think it is a virtue that this show is showing some depth to the bad guys as apposed to just being mindless nameless demons. and although the formula has been similar for each fight, each time it has escilated from nobody demon to now we have a 12 moon. This is what shonen does. it has its characters fight tougher and tougher enemies and unlock more and more abilities.

Ian Edwards

Neither sides of the argument are wrong. The one thing that the show is trying to portray us that “Demons are tragic creatures.” Tanjiro realizes that and he hates Muzan for it. With Rui muzan made him into what he was by constantly being in his ear. Other demons in the show acted out of fear of Muzan to attack humans. It’s all Muzan man. However it will be interesting to see their reactions to the events in the next episode

George Byrd

It’s been 2 years since Giyu met Tanjiro and Nezuko, which is why he didn’t recognize them till later.

Di

If any of them just don't like the show, thats totally a fair opinion but saying they like it but are desensitized because they chose not to let the story tale them where it wants to go is a bad take imo.

Its Jimmu

Usually I’d say the criticisms are fair and I actually end up agreeing with Micky for a lot of shows but I think my issue with Micky feeling desensitized here is that he’s been saying he refuses to feel bad for Rui long before we got the back story. They all knew what kind of story this is, and meeting expectations aren’t always bad. Thats like going to watch a horror movie trying not to get scared the whole time and then saying “oh that movie wasnt that scary.” Just enjoy the show for what it is and then make your case about why it did or didn’t do it for you.

Its Jimmu

Yeah season 1 is mostly just world building, getting the characters into place and introducing the first major threat that sets the stage for the next and following arcs.

Foxfire

Its not a competition. They dont need to accurately predict anything. Who cares if everything they may or may not predict is wrong. When i watched this show i predicted some things and found out i was wrong. personally when i was trying to figure out who the 12 kizuki member was among the spider family, i thought maybe the show was tricking us by making the girl seem weak, but i was WAY OFF. and when they discussed formulated, they meant the idea that tanjiro meets a demon, fights him, difficult battle ensures, demon is defeated, we learn the backstory. they weren't saying the whole show's overall story is formulated, but rather the confrontation of a demon and tanjiro.

Jessica

Demon slayers first season does tend to be kind of repetitive when it comes to the demons they fight. But like most have said starting with the movie and the following seasons the story does take a different approach to its battles and story.

They aren't triple dropping Naruto at the end of the month. This is true for Hunter x Hunter - no more double drops. It seems editing is harder now than it was before the pandemic since the editors have to edit together the recordings from each reactor for one reaction.

Tony Nguyen

This is why I was confused as to how demon slayer is anime of the year above AOT and Vinland Saga. In my eyes demon slayer hasnt had much of a story 'yet' in my eyes it was a set up season above anything similar to MHA season 1. The reason I feel AOT was great was because of the build up we had up until now and was a cumilation of everything we loved about each of their previous seasons whilst Vinland Saga although incomplete told a compelling story and has a neat conclusion at the end to finish the season. Until we get strong story aspect from demon slayer which I believe it will in later seasons we cant say outrageous stuff like its best anime of the year or decade or w.e.

Chrisman148

MHA and Demon Slayer are very similar in their formula. They are both Shonen animes which have mastered their formulas from their predecessors of Naruto (which MHA is clearly heavily inspired from), and Bleach (which Demon Slayer is most similar with). The first two seasons of MHA are very similar beat wise to Naruto with the opening arcs and the Chunin exams. Shonen anime have a formula, it is up to the creator on how to execute the formula and on the characters. MHA I think has far more better developed characters in its first 4 seasons than all of Naruto's 500 episodes. As some who has read into the manga. Demon Slayer greatly diverges following after season 1. Season 2 gets nuts and intense. VERY INTENSE.

LightningLynx89

Rana grabbing the cat from out of frame and cuddling it next to the dog made my day

For being so formulated, ya'll haven't accurately predicted jack shit the whole time.

Jagi

The Tanjiro/Rui stuff is the weakest part of the anime. It's poorly choreographed/constructed and Rui is a pretty pathetic villain in general. It actually gets good AFTER the show moves past Rui.

Norrin Radd

I don’t think offering their genuine critique of the show automatically disqualifies them from enjoying it. Only one that seems disinterested is Pat.

Not true not all animes repeat on the exact same thing. Theres Arcs for a reason, to keep the story and the plot interesting and different.

Alex cleveland

As much as the demons getting tiny bits of backstory can feel repetitive, I feel like this is also in a way how Tanjiro also saw his life flash before his eyes, but the demons lock on too there deepest regrets. Which is loved ones especially this demon believing Micheal Jackson was his downfall because he couldnt except this notion that his family were trying to kill him and themselfs to repent for him becoming a demon. The parents of this demon went above and beyond for the child even sacrificing his humanity to keep him alive. I dont think that this justification for his actions, but reasoning behind the fact that bootleg Micheal Jackson takes people when they're vulnerable. Its a great series that gets better and better. I am very happy that you guys have been able to watch this series, its up there with some of my favourite animes and mangas.

Ashley Bowman

The show does simplicity to its best.

Smiling viper

Are they gonna start double dropping any show soon? Cause I feel like if anything now would be the time where they would watch and record more 😂

CACTUSJEET

I mean all I gotta say is that when demon slayer gets to S2, the formula will def change from S1s route storyline and plots. It will def get 2x or even 3x more crazy then this first season for sure. NO SPOILERS tho, so I won't go in depth on what will specifically change when reaching the movie and the next season, but just know this manga is one of the most popular and growing manga currently.

Alex cleveland

i love nahid.

kivu_king

Crazy debate but literally almost every anime is rinse and repeat so you can’t just sit there and say that just for demon slayer

Jamil Hicks

That was one crazy debate at the end...

raesh

It’s gonna be a long long time before they ever react to it unfortunately.

Brian Ezcurra

Movie Will be Hype
