I liked the characters and the setting a lot but I was a little frustrated around the middle of the second season. I had assumed that getting the Urca gold was gonna be something that would be resolved quickly in the series but seeing all the setbacks in early and mid season 2 really started to drag me a little and I wasn't too into the show anymore. So when I saw the ending to this episode I was so incredibly hyped. The next two episodes are fantastic and in my opinion the show doesn't ever slow down from here on out so look forward to that.

As a person of the lgbtq community it's always fascinating to hear straight people talk about stereotypes and how flamboyant gays are perceived as weak, and how society then and now still would view an openly gay person versus if they'd known them first as closeted. One of the most harming stereotypes, that gays are deceitful, is still much alive today. It's sad that there are so few professional athletes out in team sports, or sports in general. Having to navigate such a huge part of yourself every day, maybe for years, decades, your whole life, takes such a toll on you. There's no hiding in the closet, it's a paralyzing fear to be outed, and can be a constant inside battle with yourself even if you live in the most progressive places and time. The closet kills. Black Sails showed a closeted man waging a war on England as revenge for what they did to him and his love. Sadly, while airing, many were angry that their awesome, masculine captain on screen was gay, but also thankfully, many saw him the same way, only that his rage and actions made a whole lot of sense now. Hopefully, by the end, those with homophobic views learned a thing or two about oppression and hate, and applied that to how they act in our society.
