I always interpreted the monster getting off the island situation (obviously there’s more info to come in the series) as being less about him personally and more about what he is and what he brings with him (the sickness). It certainly fits with what we’ve seen and how the threat of MIB has been described.

That’s why in the off-island events of ‘The Variable’, after she’s successfully sent Daniel off to the island, she explains to Penny at the hospital that for the first time she doesn’t know what will happen next.
