The world-building they do in this series is insane. It took me a couple of times rewatching the entire series to catch most things in the show. Things will be more clear and several more references will be made. Almost every (if not all) characters are references to other characters, cultures, and mythologies. You caught some already referencing the Wizard of OZ.

I hope you don't let the shitty fans ruin your viewing experience, not everyone catches everything the first time around.
