The generic isekai genre anime is the male protagnist (typically a loser in his world) get transport to a fantasy world where he is all powerful and popular. However, Re: Zero as an anti-isekai challenge this idea by making the Suburu as human as possible and the only way to progress in the story is grow up, be mature and make smart decision.

He is not fazed because he is an anime and gaming shut-in nerd, the transported to another world trope is pretty common in anime. Many weebs with boring or uneventful lives would love for that to happen to them. It's basically a basic generic fantasy world but he applies gaming and anime tropes to it himself because that's what he is familliar with and assumes.

It is? I have heard that there is barely a difference except for longer episode lengths (and an extra scene at the end of the last episode which is irrelevant now). Also, shorter episodes are much better for reactions that include edited versions for youtube including footage as much less needs to be left it?

I don't usually complain about dubs or subs cuz either way the experience is the same you know, and this dub ain't that bad...butt.....i feel like a lot of the themes and personality of the show are just completely washed out in the dub man, i just hate how some of the dialogue is switched around, i mean ill watch either way but a poll would be nice to settle things.

Going to echo the “subbed” sentiment. 80% of the time the dub is actually really solid for this series, but unfortunately it falls short in the most important places.

This'll probably get buried with the other pro-sub comments, but you guys should most definitely watch the subbed version. This is a fantastic story, with many scenes thoroughly bolstered by the voice acting. The dub aint bad, but it pales in comparison to the Japanese VA's. At the very least, do a poll and see how people respond. I would imagine its pretty heavily favoring subs; so it would satisfy the majority of patrons. And if you can follow the story of Attack on Titan with subs...you can follow this with subs. In fact, I'd venture to say (like others did above me) it makes this more clear.

Yea I love this anime but I agree that the dub is terrible and not worth watching. I dont usually complain, but I'd recommend switching to sub.

Love watching reactions to Re: Zero since it's a fantastic series but the dub is pretty painful X) I'll attempt to stick with your reactions but I had to stop watching with a friend who watched it in dub because of how bad it was and some of the things they changed.

please watch the directors cut, its better in many ways. Also the sub is way better since there is a lot of emotional scenes which just sounds 10x better in sub.

Seeing the comments, I must agree. I'd love for you to do a poll or something for Sub or Dub, just to see the pretty significant difference in what people suggest. The sub vs dub debate is always there, but this one is likely to be very very skewed in the favor of sub.

Subbed will give you correct information. Information and correct dialogue is very important in a series like this. This series constantly throws you for a loop and if you don't understand what is actually going on it will completely confuse the shit out of you. It is already confusing enough to begin with and although the dub doesn't seem bad it wouldn't work with this series when it gets into more details. Dub always tends to change translation and it won't be good getting deeper into this series. I honestly wish Chris would join in on this because he catches on to things sometimes that the others don't.

This needs to be in Subbed Normies. There will be times where the episodes just has pure emotional speeches and cries. Whenever that happens, it will really impact u when its in subbed. Dub is good, but Subbed is WAYYYY better. Especially for this specific anime. And I have watched both dubbed and subbed. Subbed is a 11/10. Dubbed is 7/8 outta 10. So Re:Zero is from a genre called "Isekai" where the main protagonist(s) are transported from one universe to another. The protagonists are usually summoned to stop the world from its destruction and they tend to be gifted with OP abilities that are considered extremely rare or have never been heard of in the world they are transported to. The alternate universes are usually fantasy themed and has certain aspects taken from games of that genre. The main reason why Subaru isn't fazed by his summoning is because he was a big anime and manga nerd (otaku) on Earth and the Isekai genre is very popular in anime and manga, so instead of being terrified, Subaru sees himself as the "protagonist that will save the world," especially when having a power that lets him fix any mistakes he does in his previous life. And the line about his parents being killed should be taken with a grain of salt. Subaru tends to use a lot of hyperbole and exaggerations to get his point across and in this instance, he was basically saying that he didn't care who Felt was or what he was to her, he just wanted the insignia.

Just to touch on why Subaru did not seemed fazed by being sent to another world. It is implied that he is a nerd like us and watches anime and plays games. Most of us nerds know about the genre Isekai (different world) in which the main character end up transported somehow. So it's making fun of how if this would have happened to a nerd like me I would feel like I'm staring in my own anime story and expect to have awesome adventures. But as you see so far his adventure is not awesome.

Oof, they weren't watching any shows I was interested anymore until now so I was really excited until I found out this was dubbed. Like, some anime have great dubs like Death Note, Cowboy Bepop, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Steins;Gate... but for Re: Zero the vocal emotion in the original just can't be compared. People may say that if they do a poll sub will win just because, but the majority of people know when there's a decent enough dub to do as shown with the split with Naruto for example, and I bet too with the other shows I named.

I always found the sub vs. dub argument pretty stupid and easily the silliest source of argument in the anime community. Watch what you want to watch. Besides, every sub reaction where I see a large group of people reacting to sucks because reactors miss a lot. It's frankly a lot easier andcmore efficient for groups to react to dubbed anime.

This anime falls in the isekia genre( how there is a shonen genre). It’s a very well known genre in the anime community. And the rabbit hole that is isekia is insane. Also love this anime and it’s probably the best isekia anime to start with. Also also don’t really mind if dub. This anime can be dialogue heavy so it’s good for reaction, but I am a sub guy myself
