The Artorias they're talking about is King Arthur and his legend(his real name was Lucius Artorius Castus). The place she was talking about that he went to heal his wounds was Avalon but it is parallelled with the viking's Vinland.

2020-11-03 07:11:30 +0000 UTCThough not much of an excuse, the biggest things I would point out is that while their circumstances are similar their start points are very different. Askellad succeeded in 2 years but he was also 11 when he started his revenge quest and was in a more mature state of mind to understand what he needed to do. Thorfinn was probably no more than 7 when Thors was killed. I think the reason Thorfinn is so fixated on a duel isn't that he is honorable but because he saw that his dad was winning in a duel and only lost because Thorfinn himself was taken captive. I think he both wants to win the way his dad should have, and also actually believes he can win just because he doesn't have a way to be blackmailed into defeat like Thors. Thorfinn isn't so much honorable as he is extremely childish and naive. Everything in this episode greatly reinforces one of my favorite lines from Thorkell when he said he can tell that Thorfinn learned absolutely nothing from Thors.

Thorfinn is trying to finish his father's duel, he's trying to make right what his child brain deemed wrong. To be fair though, they lived very different trauma's. The broad details mirror eachother but Thorfinn had a loving family and a father the exact opposite of Askeladd's. It makes sense that he's more childish, Askeladd never had that luxury.

2020-11-02 15:55:15 +0000 UTCAfter you finish this season, it would be awesome if some of you re-watched Vinland in your own time with hindsight in mind. It's an even more rewarding experience. Or even better, read the manga (which is superior). I recommend reading from the beginning so you see what i mean, but if that's not your thing just start where the anime leaves off. Chapter 55 takes place right after the events of the season 1 finale. There are 176 chapters translated so far as of today. So there is a TON of content to read through. Could even make it a thing for the book club.
