What you saw is what Gon would become in a decade or two if he continued training. Basically, this was his potential. Anyone with nen could have made that same nen condition, but it was reliant on Gon's potential. So if someone with barely any potential made the same condition, theyd be giving up their nen for practically nothing. But we get to see what Gon would have become, while he simultaneously throws away that potential in order to kill Pitou. Also, his hair growing because of his body aging I believe is the correct answer, knowing this.
