That show was my favorite apart from snk s3p2 and there's not that much action compared to your typical shounen. But the story and characters is great. And the OP1 is fucking glorious.

Vikings was historically inaccurate because they pulled from different points in time and put them in the same place. The Vinland Saga manga which has been out for years, long before the Vikings tv show, was researched and more accurate in terms of historical figures. Yes the manga creator takes more liberties with some of the fictional characters but overall it’s truer to Viking history. You shouldn’t be comparing it to the live action show.

Thorfinn and some of the other characters are based on real historical figures. Yukimura (author/illustrator of VS) definitely had some artistic liberties with the characters but he does a good job at making it historically accurate.

This was the number 1 anime for A LOT of people including me. Some of the writing in this has stuff the demon slayer story (which in my opinion is pretty damn generic and typical) just simply doesn't have. The demon slayer manga is finished as well so no take backs. Of course depending on preferences and the fact that shonen action anime always get waaaay more attention and love around it you will see most people backing demon slayer like what happened when it came out. Also because this was also only "legally" available on Amazon it was not as prevalent when it aired which held so much of the popularity it could of had back. But again this anime wasn't number one because it doesn't appeal as much to the mass audiences like demon slayer would. That has nothing to do with the story and how good the writing is. You will also find out that this entire season is just the beginning of the "story" for the main character. Demon slayer barely hits top 5 or 6 for me in terms of top anime of 2019. It just so happens it was the one that got more attention and unneeded "hype" around it way more than anything else. So basically when you combine limited availability and a limited fan base of this type of anime you get a limited outcome. I enjoyed multiple anime more than demon slayer last year and it was quite a big year for anime with multiple bangers coming out right and left. I am also not a fan of any CGI in anime so that took multiple strikes against demon slayer for me.
