Endeavor is nowhere near as strong as All Might, but that's what makes him interesting as a hero. He has these huge boots to fill with not nearly half the strength the previous guy had. It's a good humbling for him tbh, love to see how he progresses

the one difference i hate that they made from sub to dub, is in the sub, endeavor says "im not like you, i can't even move my body anymore" when he was only moving forwards with his quirk, whereas in the dub he says "i can barely even move my body anymore", and to me, that "barely" (meaning he can still move slightly), just makes it a lot less epic

I feel like everyone forgots about that 2nd voice in the room with All for one back in season 1. The guy who was asking about the whereabouts of the Nomu and saying how it was shame after they worked so hard to make him as strong as All Might. I wonder if it was written to be forgettable. They intentionally showed you that All for One wasn't alone but than purposely never brought it up again since, lol. If you watch this show multiple times you see a ton of subtle things you miss the first time or two around.

@Micky the screen dims because of the amount of flashing and strobing lights on the screen. Since the infamous Pokémon polygon episode that caused seizures among kids in Japan, they have strict rules on flashing lights and intensity used in animation. So they tend to dim the shots where they occur.

Nice, you said it like it is. Can't really redeem this man at this point, maybe atone for his sins a bit. The way people just jump on his hype train and calling him the new number one though doesn't sit right with me. Personally I think he should have died right here, for two reasons. One, to fulfill his atonement taking a incredible villain with him. That would allow his wife and children to heal with a vision of him as a hero, that tried to be better with him no longer around to fuck it up or remind them with his presence of what he has done. Also would wrap up his arc with going out as the number one, even if only for a short time. Second, to bring up the stakes. I feel it cheapens the whole One for All shtick. Before All Might, there wasn't a symbol and people world around had daily fear of villains, that's why AM fought so hard for his dream and he did it make it, for a long time there was more peace and belief because he shone so brightly. And then he went away and a darkness seemed to settle over us - until Endeavor just said fuck it I'll be the new one then. So okay, worlds safe now, hope restored, Deku can just chill around, go to Hero college for 4 years on top get that education. Felt like we lost a sense of urgency in Deku in becoming a new symbol since we already have a new one, like the darkness can easily be fought back despite All for One's machinations. Lost chance for making it a greater story with intensity and wrapping up a plot from the start of season 2 that to be honest is getting tiresome. Are we going to drag out Todorokis angst any longer? Grrrrreat.

So happy for you guys to finally get to this EPIC episode! For the editor: In the future, it's okay to cut down on some of the earlier long shots in order to not have to chop it up so drastically during the climax (i.e. getting to see their full reactions of suspense when Endeavor falls back to the ground before the fist raise). The same thing happened during the 1st edit of the Two Heroes movie and just wanted to give a heads up because there's gonna be a lot more episodes like this in upcoming seasons

To clarify, the quirk boosting drug called Trigger has been in the market for years. Shigaraki and the League of Villains only took the quirk erasing bullets. The Shie Hassaikai weren’t the original producers of Trigger, just one of the many criminal distributors.

Endeavour RISING!!! This reaction was definitely worth the wait! Man when Rana teared up I was in my feels...what an emotional and well-crafted episode. Marketa’s “best anime ever!” cheers were adorable too. MHA isn’t perfect, but when it flies it SOARS. Been a journey watching y’all catch up with this series, now onto S5! (Also...no hints but...Mickey with the big brain in this reaction haha)

Just want to expand a bit for why the Endeavor defenders get so worked up to speak out for him despite his past. When this arc in the manga dropped Horikoshi received death threats. There was a very vocal part of the readers that couldn’t stand him trying to paint Endeavor in any good light because of his past, saying that it was evil and excusing his actions to “redeem” Endeavor. When I read the arc (I think I caught up a few weeks after) I wasn’t all that struck by the fight or even the little parts they put in showing how Endeavor was doing better (the episode was good enough to make me love all parts of it though). What stood out to me were two scenes. First, we get Endeavor swallowing his pride and yelling out his old school motto, which had been used by many grads of UA before, but was also a trademark of All Might’s. It meant more to me than anything else of the flashbacks or any of the little moments with the other family members (aside from Shoto) at the time. The other part, which had an even bigger impact on me, was that we saw Shoto, the kid whose entire personality when we met him was denying his father, get worried for and cheer on his father. Nothing before this moment showed that Shoto had even begun to care for Endeavor, but this moment made me think that even if he hadn’t been warming up to him with the little gestures at the License Training, he knew Endeavor was changing and he was afraid that he would lose his father and never even have the chance to know if things could be better. It took a huge toll on Shoto, and to me his development was the biggest part for me when I read it (now am huge Endeavor fan, and see all of his stuff elevated, makes me biased, sorry). There is supposedly some mythical interview or page from an info book where Horikoshi explains he didn’t mean to paint Endeavor in such a bad light, and the way he phrased it made it seem darker than he meant, but I’ve tried searching for it multiple times and have never found any mention of it online, so it’s possible it’s just a fan theory that has taken popular root somehow. I’d like to believe it, because Endeavor has been my favorite pro hero since S2E17, and it would be nice to think he wasn’t all that bad outside of his career, but the manga hasn’t explored it all that much either way. There is something coming up that will cast even more concern, but even in the manga, who’s at fault is different according to different characters.

in the manga they put a little bit more emphasis on todoroki´s mother dialogue with the kids, she says that endevor is not running away from his past and his mistakes... he is actally facing them head on. And in the end, when he is about to defeat the nomu Endevor says that he sees himself in the nomu, that fucking monster represents everything endevor wants to get rid of from himself... and as the mother says, he doesn´t avoid it, he faces it head on and destroys it. So yeah, in my opinion is one of the best redemption arcs ever. And we get a proper number 1 hero.

Haven't finished your reaction yet just wanted to answer cuz I'll forget by then, but they dim parts of the episode cuz of seizures? Or something like that? I've never actually looked into it but it's been my assumption. They've done it with other episodes in the series as well, when a scene gets too bright and flashy.

To answer Mickey's question about the dimming. Yes. After the 1997 Pokémon epilepsy incident Japan has been quite sensitive about broadcasting things that could cause epilepsy such as the flashing lights so scenes involving crazy lighting effects or explosions are dimmed to reduce the chances of someone suffering from epilepsy to have a seizure by watching. Most anime will only have this dimmed in the broadcast versions and the Blu-Ray versions generally have no dimming on the screen over crazy lighting effects. If you’re watching on an anime streaming service the service may provide options between watching “Simulcast” or “Uncut” the Simulcast option will be the broadcasted version and the Uncut version will be the Blu-Ray version. Hope this helps.

Absolutely loved how Endeavor’s character is being handled. You have a man that committed many atrocities in his blind journey to reach the top and once he gets there by default, he is surrounded by nothing but the wake of his broken family that he created. A lot of people refer this as his “Redemption” arc, but I do not think Enji Todoroki is redeemable. Atonement is the more apt description which is beautifully wrapped up in the title of the episode “His Start”.
