I don't think the MIsa/Light dynamic is that unrealistic. Remember that Light is incredibly good-looking and popular, and somewhat famous both as an athlete and a scholar (scholarship holding more social cachet in Japanese schools than it does in the US -- if you're good-looking and socially adept, then being top of your class actually makes you more popular). When you have a top 1% attractive guy, girls will literally destroy themselves for that person's favor. Imagine if Justin Bieber is his heyday asked a girl to run around dodging cars on a busy freeway in exchange for being his girlfriend -- she probably would.

As twisted as the Misa/Light relation ship seems something that always stood out to me is that while Light is definitively abusive it only happens because he is under literal threat of death to put up with her. Misa literally forced her way into his life and altered his life to accommodate her whims. If he refused her Misa would only do more reckless shit to get him until he was caught and Rem obviously made it impossible to kill her. As much as it blows my mind how he treats her sometimes it is also 100% UNDENIABLY her own fault.

I never understood why people believe her lifespan was extended by 100's of years. I mean we have no idea how many years Gelus had left. More then likely it wouldn't have been very many given what we know of the Shinigami, them being extremely lazy and are often made fun of when they do eventually write a humans name in their book.

If you can remember, Misa gained the rest of the lifespan that the Shinigami that fell in love with her had. And Shinigami gain the lifespan of the Humans they kill with their Death Note, so it's a good possibility that Misa had hundreds maybe thousands of years added to hers. She should be able to live a very long life.
