[Premium Access] The Wire - 3x9 Slapstick - Group Reaction

Prezbylewsky once again shows that he's probably not fit to carry a service weapon, while Avon and Stringer fight again over an attempt at a hit on a Sunday in Season 3 Episode 9 of The Wire!

[Premium Access] The Wire - 3x9 Slapstick - Group Reaction

Comments

Hey, how come the uncut doesn't have a timer? It's almost like y'all didn't give a shit this time if we could keep it synched or not. Especially when it keeps FUCKING freezing

BetheSOUL

Yeah we probably won't see a lot of Prez next season

Max

Very well said. I enjoyed reading the parallels that you made between the three. It's going to be great seeing the normies reactions to the continuation of Prez Pryzbylewski's arc moving forward. No one more excited than Chris I'm sure. He's always so geeked out when he watches his friends watch The Wire.

Oh yeah this is the episode that leads to the birth one of my favorite characters on the Wire Mr. ______. This show never fails to amaze me with its long term planning and foreshadowing, no matter how many times I watch it I’m always amazed by them.

Ryan

As Prez says "whats the difference?"

JD

Try sons of anarchy.

Darrell Henry

I dont think that's true...

Max

Suraj has been dropping the ball on his takes for a while now.

Blake

Lol suraj keeps disrespecting my boy Avon in these discussion like he is so clueless to what he’s talking about it’s insane.

Blake

'their' faces when 'someone' said what they said towards the end of the reaction. 🤣🤫

Kiana B.

i, for one love squeak, she's fucking hilarious.

Kiana B.

"no shame them niggas!" i say that shit at least once a month randomly 😭😭😭

Kiana B.

funniest episode ever, i die everytime lmaoo.

Kiana B.

Lmao his hate for Avon he doesn’t understand the whole point if the Sunday truce. So mad at Avon about being pissed at stringer 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

Acash33

My favorite piece of Wire trivia: Up to this point, police have only fired their weapon three times total in the series. It was Prez each time.

ShaneSpear

Prez's character arc is one of the most interesting in the show. He does so many stupid and unforgivable things, but still it's hard to see him as completely bad. There is a place for him in the world, it's just not where he's been trying to be. It reminds me of D'Angelo and the murder he escaped conviction for in episode 1 - he was in a life and a position he's not built for, he acted stupidly and as a result, someone's dead. Same with Ziggy and the murder of Glekas.

Laura

I appreciate the discussion about Prez and racial bias. It is difficult to have nuanced discussion about these issues in today’s political climate. Too often these discussions are over-simplified and can be counterproductive. Well done

@Nerd Going Outside I was one of the few people in college who didn't have one. The only reason I did get one a couple of years later is my girlfriend at the time (now wife) went to grad school in a different state. With that being said, people had them, but mostly to talk to family and friends. It wasn't attached to their hip like they are now.

Matthew Hamby

I like how they tell a little about Prez's life mentioning he has a wife and kids, making you think he is going to die and played off typical TV tropes.

Philip G.

No offense Marketa but that's incredibly fucked up. The fortune cookie comes last.

Great episode and great discussion! I do want to take a little bit of an issue with the convo about the Bay Wireless scene though. The discussion framed this as something new or out of the ordinary, with Ronda seeking to violate privacy laws or civil liberties, which I don't think is correct. Ronda/Daniels aren't seeking to do any different here than they have for wiretaps in previous seasons. It still requires legitimate probable cause, a specific set of allegations for specific crimes, a mountain of paperwork, and a court order signed by a judge. The issue here isn't that they want a different, less rigorous process, it's that once the court has ordered the tap it will take the wireless company a month to respond to the court order, which they frame as unacceptable. It doesn't seem like a civil liberties issue unless you feel like the taps in previous seasons were also a civil liberties issue, which is certainly a perspective and fair enough! But yeah this is just about the company being unresponsive (because they know damn well the customer profile that is making them money, I suspect). Also, I was in college around this time, 2004, and if there was anyone I knew that didn't have a cell phone I can't remember it, they were pretty ubiquitous and plans were generally cheaper than now. They were phones, not pocket computers like we use them now, but basically everyone had one and I wasn't at a really affluent college. I don't think Ronda's too far out over her skis here! :)

Nerd Going Outside

In McNulty's speech about how no one else could do what they do in their unit - Prez is also in their unit. He wasn't inadvertently offending Prez because Prez was included.

JD

finally! this was a great episode
