Here is the actual explanation: "After boarding Priscilla’s carriage and some talk about Priscilla’s status as a Royal Candidate and as the pinnacle of arrogance, Al casually mentions that he had noticed Subaru was from another world just from the use of the expression “red string of fate”. He goes on to mention he had not heard of it for eighteen years, that is, the amount of time he has been in this parallel world. He has no idea of why or how he was summoned, remarking he’s just been trying to stay alive. Furthermore, some detail about the world is given; that there is a Great Waterfall bordering the world of RZ, meaning that it is a flat world."
