Patreon Newsletter #16: January 2021!

It’s 2021! It doesn’t seem like anything has changed but nevertheless we’ve all agreed to some sort of constructed mental shift! New beginnings! New habits! The possibilities are everywhere! We hope you all had a safe and wonderful holiday and may this year be YOUR BEST!

From Adal:

Hey Riddiots!

So in December I celebrated my first hanukkah! I bought Jemma and I an all cat menorah (dubbed the ‘meownorah’) and we named each cat on the day we lit their candle. We also made latkes from scratch which are just delightful. For Christmas we ended up ordering Sushi and watched Coming To America, so no complaints there. The thing that maybe brought the most joy to the Rifai household in December is the game KLASK. It’s a mix between air hockey and foosball! If you live with someone you can play with, I highly recommend picking it up! If you do, DM me and I’ll show you the way Jemma and I start each game. (It’s a VERY special ritual)

Other than that it’s just a lot of small things around the house we’re trying to fix up! Tiki Bar is officially called ‘Rifai Tai’ and will hopefully be open by June 1st! Just in time to serve up a Kiki Tiki and a JuicePunchColada in honor of my birthday! Speaking of, my sister Sadieh’s 40th birthday is this Sunday, the 10th, so if you want to send her a lil HappyBirthday on social media I think that would be pretty cool!

Here’s what I consumed in December!

Movies:

I’m hoping to get back into reading more as I’ve felt for the past month or so that I just can’t sit and focus for terribly long. I probably just need to put my phone in another room and that’ll do the trick. I also have some projects i’m working on that hopefully will get done in the first half of the year. Wish me luck! And good luck to you on anything you’re setting out to accomplish this year! We got this baybee!!

All the love,

Adal

From Erin:

Happy NEW YEAR!

I cut my finger cutting potato’s and that’s the only thing to happen in 2021 so far.

I feel excited for this year. It seems like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I’m really excited for our livestream show this month. I’m also moving to LA this year! If you anyone in LA who would want to hire me for ANYTHING-LET ME KNOW! Also if you have any LA suggestions or Chicago take out I should try before I move please shoot me a message or leave a comment on this post!

I absolutely died laughing watching this with Sean. I’m sure a lot of you have already seen this. If you like musicals for sure check this out.

This is my playlist for the month. Sean and I were talking about our music taste in middle school. I described mine as “women banging a piano as hard as they can” he requested a playlist from that time. So here we are! If anyone has any requests of playlists from me. It can be vibe or genre or whatever!

Sending you all so much joy! You’re doing great!

Love,

Erin

From JPC:

Reading: I set a goal for myself in December to read 3 books and I did! Kinda? One of them was an essay. I read Night Thoughts by Wallace Shawn (I also read a passage from it on a main feed episode) and I really liked it. It's not very long and it's basically his musings on life, the future and the revolution. He's an interesting dude. I also read All You Need Is Kill, which was a birthday present from Adal! Overall, I liked the movie more, but it was still an interesting read. And there would be no movie without it! I also read Can't Pay Won't Pay which is a book by The Debt Collective advocating for Debters Unions. Realy enjoyed that one. I also started 2 more books but didn't finish them so that's just padding my January numbers.

Video Games: Still haven't finished Doom Eternal. I feel like I always sit down to play it when I only have like 20 minutes and each level takes me over an hour. I also can't play it too close to bed time because the heavy metal gets me too worked up. I played through Bastion (from the makers of Hades) and that was a blast. The narrator is great. I bought all the Supergiant games so I'll be working my way through them all eventually. Near the end of the month I downloaded MTG Arena cause I wanted to draft (huge mistake) because MTG is a poison and you have to grind a lot before you can buy into a draft. But I got 6 wins on my first draft so that felt good (got 2 on my second). But I promised myself after spending WAY too much on Hearthstone that I would never spend money on an internet card game ever again and so far I haven't spent anything. I also just started playing They Are Billions which is a zombie survival base building RTS game and it's very stressful but also a ton of fun. I'm only like 20% through the campaign so I'll be playing that on stream for the next week or so. Oh, and I did a few more Among Us streams with some improviser friends. I'll do more of those in Jan (most likely Friday or Saturday evenings). As always, that link is Twitch.tv/sharkbarkman

TV & Movies: The only TV show we've been watching is Steven Universe and we are hooked! We are now in season 4 and if you haven't seen this show you absolutely should. Episodes are like 11 minutes and it's a really well made show. It's funny, silly and at times, heartbreaking. I don't know what I'm going to do when it's over. For movies, we watched Wonder Woman 1984 and it's really bad! Just a bad movie. Bad film! We also watched Soul and that was fine. I think I liked Inside Out and Coco more and it kinda reminded me of both of those. If I watched anything else, I don't remember it!

In any of y'all have never watched The Trip (with Steve Coogan & Rob Brydon), I would highly recommend for travel/food envy (something I am very into during the pandemic) and nonsense bits/impressions/comedy. All four seasons are great, but S1&2 are my fav (my brother actually got married at the first venue in the 1st season - Inn at Whitewell).
