Patreon Newsletter #30: April 2022!

From Adal:

Hey Future Lizards!

March 2022 has been truly one of the best months of my old ass existence! I had my bachelor party at a friends lake house in Tennessee and we basically played board games and Jackbox games for 4 days straight and just laughed our asses off. I almost just want to do a yearly board game retreat with friends now. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect celebration.

I also just got home from a cruise we took for Jemma’s birthday! We had an incredible time and got to visit the Bahamas, Aruba and Curaçao (known for their liquor used in a ton of tiki drinks!). Jemma gets a wild discount as a flight attendant so we got 8 day tickets for $160 a person which is the cost of one night at a hotel almost anywhere in the US so we might start cruising more often. Hit me up if you have any cruise ships or itineraries you recommend!

I’m thinking of doing a short trip the first week of June as my 40th birthday is 6/1. Sedona is high on my list of US places I’ve never visited but have extreme interest in. I’ve heard it’s choc-a-bloc with ufo’s, weird sites and conspiracies? Let me know if you have any recommendations for me there or in the surrounding area in Arizona!

As per my last newsletter update where I was curious if I could try and snatch the ‘most podcast guest spots crown’ I had a very kind listener (Ben S.) let me know that according to podchaser.com I’ve guested on 143 podcasts! My goal is 200 by the end of 2022.

I’m thinking about buying the new Kirby game for Switch but I’ve never played any previous Kirby games. Is it worth it? Is there another game(s) I should play first?

18 days until the wedding!!!

Here’s what media I consumed in March -

TV:

Movies:

I guested on the following podcasts!

Please let me know what you’ve been enjoying so I can check it out!

From Erin

Hello!

Go see Everything, Everywhere, All at once in theaters if you can. I think it’s one of my favorite movies of all time.

Also I’m obsessed with Severance and Pachinko. Honestly, Apple TV is killing it and worth the money right now. Severance and Mythic Quest are two of the best shows of the last 10 years.

The current season of Survivor has also been pretty good so far.

That’s it from me! I hope you all have a great month!

From JPC

This was so great. I love the ones where you don't tell us it's a full episode scene and I'm expecting you to break out of character but it just keeps going with more hysteria. Fucking outstanding!

I have two sports documentaries to recommend: The History of the Seattle Mariners, and Captain Ahab: the Story of Dave Steib. They're on YouTube, made by Jon Bois and Alex Rubenstein, and both have made me care about sports more than I had ever thought I would. I would also recommend the rest of Jon Bois' body of work, like The Bob Emergency, an analysis of professional sports players named Bob; I Wish Everyone Else Was Dead, a look at the life of 24's Jack Bauer; and last but certainly not least 17776, possibly my favorite piece of speculative sci-fi along with its sequel 20020.

You get access to the episodes at the $5/month tier!

Hey Riddle Riddle

How do we listen to the Patreon content? All I see are words. Words!

I am about 5 minutes into the "movie" for the next review crew and "this shit is WILD" is already more than apt.

this made me guffaw

I like Lydia!! Also Mike is weirdly compelling

Hey Riddle Riddle

I concur with JPC. Elden Ring. That is all.

Dunno if this is your speed, Adal, but about 40 minutes north of Sedona you can go to an in the trees ropes course at Flagstaff Xtreme. It's got a bunch of ziplines and suspension bridges between trees and puts you between twenty to sixty feet above ground while you're strapped into a harness. It's really fun, and a bit less hippies and crystals than Sedona is.

I grew up in AZ and we went to Sedona every summer to camp. Red Rock is amazing and has some great trails to hike and places to swim. We always preferred it over Slide Rock because it was less busy. But Slide Rock is also very fun. Go to Oak Creek, which is where you can see a good view of the rock formations. And the vortexes!

I need to know your survivor picks! I’m team Lydia

so happy for adal and jpc finally tying the knot and taking their honeymoon together, congrats you two :’)

As someone who plans most of his travel around cool-sounding escape rooms, I recently heard about The Nemesis Club in Phoenix, which is an escape room with a secret entrance throough an ice cream shop. Might be worth a look if you head to the Sedona area!
