HRR Updates/News:

 From Adal:

Jemma and I had the best time in Japan! This time around we got to pop over to Kyoto and Osaka as well as hit up some of our favorite places again in Tokyo. We ended up buying 2 suitcases (thank you Don Quijote) to bring back all the shit we (I) bought, which was mostly the byproduct of me becoming infatuated this time around with the insane gachapons available. My favorite being animals that are weighing themselves. I also brought back way too many Smiski figures. Jemma and I are writing up a document with all our favorite things we did if you ever want a copy for an upcoming trip.

Here’s what I consumed in August. Let me know if you’ve enjoyed anything recently that I should check out!

From JPC:

Hey Riddiots -

I’m on vacation. Hope everyone has a happy whatever holiday this is where my wife gets Monday off. I’d Google it but that would be Labor and I do NOT Labor while I’m on vacation.

Oooo I’d love to see the Japan list! I’ve been learning Japanese for about a year and am going with a few friends in October!

I’m actually headed to New York for the first time in November. I wasn’t sure which musicals/restaurants to check out while there

If you want an album to start with I'd say "Moving Days". Has a great variety, and IMO a great album as a unit.

Homecomings is a really good Japanese pop/indie rock band. I first heard this song "Lapse" as the outro music for the anime "Insomniacs After School": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4iEBJbQg_M And one more song to give a slightly different idea of their work, "Hull Down": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKQlZ0XMRgc

A few eps ago you guys used Aussie tv shows for your public access tv prompts - as funny as the names are out of context I thought I'd recommend some (actually good) Aussie/NZ comedy that you should check out!!! If you're looking for something a little different. Thank God You're Here is an improv show (kind of.) Local comics step into scenes and have to improvise as they go, the ensemble is fantastic and while it's not reaaaally improv it's still joyous. Guy Mongomary's Guy MontspellingBee is an instant classic, showcasing so many fantastic Aussie comics! Plus Guy is taking the world by storm, 2 years ago I saw him at MICF and the audience was about 50 people. This year it was closer to 500. Get onto him!! This show has that classic British panel show feeling with a good kiwi /Aussie jovial twist. Descent is streaming now on GrouseHouse (Aunty Donna's production company - it's on their YouTube channel). Some amazing local improvisers in this, super absurd and super silly funny shit. Highly recommend (plus this might actually be the only one that you have access to depending on international availability. OK FINALLY. Check out @spontoontv on IG and yt - local and international improvisers doing their GD thing. And then they animate the scenes!!! Check it out

Tilda!

Taeko Onuki slaps!!!

Adal, I also saw Singin’ in the Rain only recently and was extremely delighted by it. It really holds up amazingly well…except for that terrible Make ‘Em Laugh number. YEESH

Amber

Adal if you enjoyed Rita’s you should go to John’s Water Ice in Philly for that Real Shit™️

Thanks for recommending 4:00 AM, Adal. I enjoyed it 😄. I can't wait to see your list once you and Jemma are done with it. I've been studying Japanese for over 3 years, and I plan on visiting Japan in the next few years

The notification threw me off because it doesn't say "Newsletter" 😂
