From Adal:
Here’s what I consumed in October. Let me know if you’ve enjoyed anything recently that I should check out!
TV:
What We Do in the Shadows season 6
Abbott Elementary season 4
Somebody Somewhere season 1 (my sister Sadieh is in season 3 which just released, so I’m rushing to watch the first 2 seasons!)
The Floor season 2
Starting Five
Movies:
Over The Garden Wall - which just celebrated it’s 10th anniversary and creator Patrick McHale made this new video to celebrate, which I think is worth checking out: Over the Garden Wall | 10th Anniversary Stop Motion Short | Cartoon Network
It’s What’s Inside - Super fun new movie on Netflix, Jemma’s cousin plays ‘Forbes’
Pearl
MaXXXine
The Shadow Strays
Jennifer’s Body - had never seen this and was surprised how funny it was. A ‘Heathers’ vibe to be sure
Other Stuffs:
I Recently guested on The Restricted Section podcast as well as Source Not Found podcast
I went to my very first Ska concert in Madison. A band called ‘I Voted For Kodos’ which was Jemma’s favorite when she went through her ska phase. Pretty fun concert…I finally saw someone skank
Speaking of Jemma, I saw a show she was involved with called The Last Days of Eden Creek. It was an immersive style musical by a local immersive group, Birch House. If you’re in Chicago, I recommend you check out whatever show they put up next!
I had a blast on the Hey Riddle tour and especially losing my mind and breaking my body at Boda Borg in Boston….WUMPLEFRUMP.
I really dig the new ‘straight to album musical’ of the movie The Warriors that Lin-Manuel Miranda just put out called ‘Warriors’. Almost every song is inspired by a different genre of music
Jemma and I have played and enjoyed the new Super Mario Party Jamboree
Read and enjoyed The Wood at Midwinter by Susanna Clarke (highly highly recommend her last book Piranesi if you haven’t checked that out yet) and War by Bob Woodword

From JPC:
Hey Riddiots -
I recently had knee surgery so I’ve had a lot of time to just kind of lay around. Shout out to Adal & Jemma who brought me dinner and buckeyes after my surgery. Good people! Definitely keep them in mind for your next surgery.
Luckily, my recovery started on the same day that the Brotato DLC was released. Been having a blast with that. Playing my Steam Deck more than I have in the last year. Guess that purchase is really paying off for me now. Also been playing a fair amount of Risk of Rain 2 since the new DLC got “fixed”. It’s still very hard!
I'm coming to terms with the fact that I'm just not a TV guy anymore. I watched Nobody Wants This with my wife and it was fine. I like that Adam Brody. We also watched all of English Teacher and that is really good. Highly recommend that. And those two shows took me almost 2 months to watch!
Two quick professional updates:
1) My other podcast Billbuds is on hiatus. We've been recording that podcast weekly for 4 years! That's wild. It's truly been a lot of fun and I learned embarrassing little about music doing a music review show. The show was very much a "pandemic" project that Johnny & I had talked about doing for years and then we finally had a lot of time on our hands. 4 years later, and we have way less time on on hands (mostly me who has a toddler on my hands). Anyway, the pod is still available wherever you get podcasts but there won't be any new episodes for a while. We also paused our Patreon, but if you have any interest in the almost 100 bonus episodes, you can buy them all for $10 here: https://www.patreon.com/collection/785448
2) I've taken over as the producer for Whirled News Tonight at iO. We've probably talked about WNT on the show a ton before, but if you are new here or don't recall the details, it's a weekly improv show every Saturday night at 8pm at iO in Chicago. The show is an improvised satire of the news of the week. The audience clips out news articles, we read them on stage and then improvise scenes based on those articles. If you've never seen the show before, it's a lot of fun. I'll be there every Saturday in November (and most in December). I'll be the one walking VERY weird. I've really enjoyed meeting HRR listeners, so if you come to the show, make sure you say hi! Remember, you know me but I don't know you, so you have to approach me. Terrifying, but I believe in you.
Okay, now I simply must know: what’s your favorite thing to do while you’re recuperating from knee surgery?

This is going to be a lame answer but keep up with your PT exercises! I also binged New Girl and it really did help. Dragged my bum ass to two shows in ADA accessible seating which ow but it was worth it.

2024-11-16 21:30:36 +0000 UTCI was recently recovering from ankle surgery and did several paint-by-numbers. Highly recommend if you’re at all artsy and like to hyper-fixate. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

2024-11-06 18:41:38 +0000 UTCWishing a speedy recovery to JPC! If you haven’t yet played Cult of the Lamb, it’s a charming roguelike with animal crossing elements. It has local co-op as well! Balatro is also my game of the season, and I think I recall Adal, Arnie, and Matt talking about it in a Magic Tavern bonus.

2024-11-06 14:18:02 +0000 UTCmy bf just had surgery and i would NOT recommend watching medical movies or tv

2024-11-06 08:37:34 +0000 UTCAwfully tempted to fly all the way to the USA to catch WNT as well as HRR and HFTMT live someday, but I'm certain JPC will brutally make fun of me if I fangirl that hard. To kill time on recovery, find the weirdest-looking language possible to you as an English speaker and try to learn its alphabet.

2024-11-06 05:24:37 +0000 UTCJPC, I highly recommend sitting next to a window with a telescopic camera lens and getting into some wacky Rear Window situations. Or just watch Rear Window.

2024-11-06 03:07:19 +0000 UTCWoah, it's "whirled news tonight" not "world news tonight"? I've been hearing that wrong for years. When I had acl repair I built the lego world map project. Takes for freaking ever. Especially good if you have a nice big counter with barstool type chairs so you can easily get up on one leg to lean/reach. Same idea would go for jigsaws or model building.

2024-11-06 01:22:51 +0000 UTCWhen I got reconstructive ACL surgery I binged the entirety of Twin Peaks and rewatched my favorite Wes Anderson movies! Hoping the recovery is really speedy, the pain is limited, and the good food keeps coming 🙏

2024-11-06 01:00:10 +0000 UTCHave you guys watched Patton Oswalt's new lateral thinking game show on Prime?

2024-11-06 00:55:39 +0000 UTCI haven't had to have knee surgery yet (it's coming) but when i was laid up in the hospital a couple years ago, i read comics on my phone.

2024-11-06 00:14:47 +0000 UTCRecover well JPC!

2024-11-06 00:09:18 +0000 UTCCongrats on your new role with WNT and I wish you a speedy recovery! While you’re laid up, I recommend giving Balatro another chance. I’m not sure how you played it first time around but there is now a mobile version and the touchscreen controls really smooth out the experience

2024-11-06 00:08:17 +0000 UTCJPC hope you have a quick recovery. If I may add a Steam game I've been recently been playing to your radar, I've been playing a rogue like called Windblown. Very fun and has 3 player co-op!
