Smol Video and File: Planning for Creative Blocks in Deadlines
Added 2024-08-01 16:00:00 +0000 UTCMaking art is funny. I've created several ways to come up with concepts effectively, even on bad days, but during the process of this illustration, I was fairly blocked for a whole day. I'm not sure if it was the heat or simply one of those days.
Right before falling asleep, I imagined a picture of a small child in a red Japanese dress, practicing samurai moves, and a big old man in the back teaching her. I guess this is an old idea that pops into my mind every once in a while. This time, I was lucky to meet it again. The next day, I searched for references with vibrant red colors, and the ladybug was the first choice. After that, I just followed the art direction and chose an insect that could capture that stoic, strong shape for the big man in the back.
The mind works in mysterious ways, so be sure to add a couple of extra days to your deadlines before signing contracts. Just in case you find yourself in a similar situation, at least you will have time to restart and come back with fresh ideas.
