This week, I revisited the idea that I had let go of last week, the one I failed to deliver. Mostly because I had such a great amount of references saved already with this outfit theme from old time China, kind of romantic.
It was supposed to be a story about "pen and ink," but the composition was not there yet. I listed all kinds of characteristics of pen and ink, like writing, so the idea shifted for a while towards a narrative about "leather." The problem with leather is that visually it was too simple: white, squares, and a bit of red, not very fun. So, I figured having both "pen/ink" plus "leather" would have a great impact. The thing was, what story did they both share through characters?
While searching for more references, I found one picture in which a female was looking in the mirror while a man in uniform was standing on her right side (you will see the reference in the process video). This, I think, allowed me to come up with "drama," which is basically making the female "pen/ink" character write a letter to her military husband "leather." He would be there visually, but my intention was to make him look absent in physical form, a phantom basically, the spirit of him.
Why do I talk more about the concept than the execution? Because I think anyone who pays attention to my process will learn it, but the power behind those aesthetics is in the actual story. So, whatever strange way I manage to come up with these ideas, it's my intention for you to actually learn so you can be authentic as well.
Finally, I'm feeling better. I've spent some time listening to and reading about philosophy, and this, in a way, has brought perspective to my life. I might talk more about this in the next post, just in case you need it as well. Thank you for your support.
