Hi everyone,
Whisper was inspired by La La Land, the movie. I watched it again last week, and since I really love its vibe, I wanted to create an illustration around the theme of "dancers."
This illustration also gave me the opportunity to explore the concept of a character without a body made of bone and flesh, something I’ve wanted to try for quite a while. It was a way to challenge myself by creating something more complex that doesn’t rely on facial expressions or hands, which are typically very important in my compositions.
The idea of a hand fan emerged as a way to justify a character made out of "air" or essentially nothing. However, a regular fan didn’t quite match the gestures or silhouettes of the theme. The hand fan, on the other hand, is not only simpler and more casual but also elegant, with various patterns and a dress-like shape that perfectly suited the "classy" narrative I was aiming for.
I did face some struggles during the execution, such as dealing with empty spaces in the composition and inconsistent proportions, but I managed to address these issues in time for this weekly post. For more details about the execution, please check the process video and file below.
