This piece is the result of several failed attempts over the course of weeks. I've wanted to do something related to cutlery for a very long time. Initially, knights were more appealing to me, but I didn’t really have a clear 'scene' in mind for the composition.
While imagining three friends laughing at each other, I realized this could be a great opportunity to create something inspired by a trio. The immediate thought was the Three Musketeers, and from that, cutlery inspired by the Three Musketeers.
It made perfect sense, as the 17th-century French military and aristocratic fashion of the musketeers could, in my opinion, match very fancy cutlery. The interaction is based on the actions each utensil typically performs: the knife cutting, the spoon holding, and the fork piercing, or at least trying to pierce a green pea, or in this case, an apple. The silhouettes of each character were also designed to resemble cutlery.
In short, this piece came together relatively quickly. I had been thinking about it for a while, and what was missing was mostly the momentum, in this case, two of them mocking one of them. On a personal level, this piece reminds me of the old times with my friends, something I've been missing for years now. I hope those moments come back, even if just for a few minutes. Nevertheless, it's always nice to remember and be certain that at least I experienced them.
