Reality vs Style - Telling Visual Stories

Last Monday I was thinking about making a series of random practices; eventually, I chose to paint only one of them. A picture of a man driving with a woman on his motorcycle, through what I think is a European coast.

I managed to capture the reality of the picture in my own way, yet through the end, I felt compelled to push them both towards a more exaggerated and dynamic version of each. Him leaning forward into what seems to be a rapid action scene, and her almost ready to fall in the middle of the chaos.

At first, I was not sure if making them more "cartoony" would work, but for a second, I remembered one of Miyazaki's car scenes and felt very inspired to pursue a similar mood. So not only would the study look different in terms of execution, but also the whole energy of the moment would be different as well, making the practice the same yet a different story.

I'm glad when these accidents occur during the execution phase because I did not plan anything in principle. It's like betting and expecting to find something different in a path you had walked before. Sometimes ideas don't spark, but sometimes you are lucky.

If you find this idea cool, go and check a reference you think you could bring more life into. I'm still not sure what a perfect reference for this type of practice would be, but I assume something very casual where you think something fun could happen and it's not fully presented in the pic.
