Making Art for Broken Hearts - PSD File and Process Video

I spent a while thinking about this poem about love. I wanted it to be like a step-by-step tutorial for people with broken hearts. I thought of a poem or instructions to deal with suffering and pain, ending with something positive: take care of it and try again. In my opinion, life is about overcoming past situations and allowing yourself to be vulnerable. It’s not easy, but staying alone, avoiding those issues, and being afraid of trying again isn’t the solution. It’s logical to avoid the trauma of betrayal or being treated badly, but my focus was encouraging people to explore their suffering deeply and move forward.

My favourite line is: "Sometimes we fall in love with gravity". It doesn’t entirely make sense, but I like how it sounds. It’s not about being obsessed with falling, but falling is a consequence of finding someone you like. Here, gravity symbolises mistakes, falling for the wrong person, and breaking ourselves. I wanted the first line to be a question, making people relate “Yes, my heart is broken”, and then introduce this symbolic phrase about falling in love with gravity. The rest is just about fixing it and hoping for the best.

I started drawing a porcelain heart. But it felt too literal. I forced myself to think symbolically, replacing the heart with another object. I thought of a teapot, I don't know why, maybe because I drink tea, maybe because it's pretty and can be broken. I imagine a broken teapot and someone wise (a mother or father figure) helping fix it while teaching a lesson about love. I liked the idea of a store filled with objects. Visually, the teapot would be bluish, broken at first, then gaining red tones, like blood, as it’s fixed. It’s subtle but adds a layer: the teapot becoming alive again, like a heart.

I spent two weeks working on this. It touches an important subject that everyone has experienced. It’s visually simple yet feels fresh and warm, mostly because of the white, orange, and red tones.

Creating art isn’t always about being happy. Sometimes it’s painful, stressful, or makes you anxious. But if what you’re pursuing has meaning, it’s worth it. It’s maybe an unpopular opinion, but it’s how I feel. Anyways, check the process video, and if you have questions, don't hesitate to reach out. Take care and thank you for your support.
